And finally, this struggle is a defining moment for the United Nations itself. And the world needs its principled leadership. It undermines the credibility of this great institution, for example, when the Commission on Human Rights offers seats to the world's most persistent violators of human rights. The United Nations depends above all on its moral authority and that authority must be preserved.

All excellent, including this mirror held up to hypocrisy.

I watched the speech this morning and it was even more awesome then the others! He basicly told those clowns in the audience that this is REAL serious and the games they are playing need to stop now. Either get committed and involved, or start building bunkers and assume the basic airline crash position - lean forward, put your head between you legs - and kiss your ass goodbye!

GEORGE W. GLADIATOR

Way to go, George! We're taking names and kicking @ss! And hopefully, withholding funds from the UN until "the world's most persistent violators of human rights" are kicked off the commission and handed a one-way ticket home. Hope the jerks were cringing in their seats, hope the cameras picked up beads of sweat on their ugly brows. (I can dream.)

Do you suppose that given this and other speeches like it, the over-all response of the man to the circumstances and the support of the US and world opinion, it would be too much to expect the media to referr to him consistently as "President Bush?" I get pretty damn sick of the use of the "president clinton" title as compared to "Bush" by them. Do you think it's just too much to expect?

They can be expected to use chemical, biological and nuclear weapons the moment they are capable of doing so. No hint of conscience would prevent it. This threat cannot be ignored. This threat cannot be appeased. Civilization itself, the civilization we share, is threatened.

History will record our response and judge or justify every nation in this hall. The civilized world is now responding. We act to defend ourselves and deliver our children from a future of fear

An excellent speech, although why Bush gave it to yet another terrorist organization is beyond me. The UN needs to be GONE from what's left of this country, and we need to not be a part of it.

To inflame ethnic hatred is to advance the cause of terror.

Now who would do such a thing?

And a murderer is not a martyr, he is just a murder.

Those who believe the terrorists "were not cowards" need to pay attention to this: murderers are never courageous. Murderers might shock us with their evil, with the brazenness of their acts, but they are still cowards.

We must speak the truth about terror. Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories concerning the attacks of September the 11th, malicious lies that attempt to shift the blame away from the terrorists themselves, away from the guilty. To inflame ethnic hatred is to advance the cause of terror.

And finally, this struggle is a defining moment for the United Nations itself. And the world needs its principled leadership. Great speech. I am so thankful he put Clinton in his place and told the UN they cannot keep squandering their opportunity to lead. Way to go "W". Thank you for being my President. No, he's not perfect but he does have the moral fortitude to lead. My prayer for him is to keep his eyes on the prize and not get distracted.

Every civilized nation here today is resolved to keep the most basic commitment of civilization. We will defend ourselves and our future against terror and lawless violence.

I wonder the exact number of countries felt insulted by that statement? Right at the outset....

Some nations want to play their part in the fight against terror but tell us they lack the means to enforce their laws and control their borders. We stand ready to help.

Goody!

Arabs are crossing the Mexican frontier DAILY and neither Bush nor Congress are doing anything to stop it. When they passed the Patriot Act, closing our southern border was conspicuously missing.

Now can we please control our own borders? The militia can do it. The army and the border patrol can't.

That was great! I saw his speech and was again impressed with his delivery of it and what he said in it. He covered all the bases. Great speech and his sincerity and the way he said it with conviction. Awesome! They all know this President means it.

"We did not ask for this mission, yet there is honor in history's call. We have a chance the write the story or our times, a story of courage defeating cruelty and light overcoming darkness. This calling is worthy of any life and worthy of every nation.

One of the best lines in any speech in recent memory. This man is just incredible. The speech should be printed in toto in every major newspaper and read in every class room.

Wonderful speech! And I wonder if he already knew the details of the bin Laden video making the rounds of his supporters for 2 weeks in which bin Laden spoke of good terrorists.
