Rush Limbaugh is my hero!
An American, Dad, Vet, Clinton Legacy Cookbook Chef, an all around good guy..LOL | Nov 10 2001 | Carlo3b

Rush Limbaugh has single-handedly brought us to a stage in our politics that we have the luxury to complain about how conservative this or that jerk Republican is, in what power position of control within our government. Rush is my hero, and always will be, and if you are over 50 and can remember where we Republicans came from, it will remind you what he did for all of us, that lived and suffered through it while sober.

It must have been 1988 or early '89, I was driving the interstate in Houston, when I switched radio channels and heard Rush the very first time. These were difficult times politically, the media had a full court press on, to soften the newly elected Bush Sr for the political slaughter that would mark the entire 4 years of his administration. It was obvious from the beginning, that the dignified President G H Bush, and his experienced adult and truly exceptional advisors were no match for the political task that lay ahead. The left, had endured Reagan, and his fatal near charm for 8 long years, and that was just about all they could handle.

Every TV and radio news station, every newspaper, each and every commentator in the public arena of political, academic, financial and entertainment life, was working off the same script... "this is the worse economy, worse indicators, worse direction our national health, and poor homeless citizenry have ever endured ...Blah blah blah" ...HUH .....WHAT??? WHERE??? WHO????

Didn't anyone remember THE "Double Digit" CARTER, or THE "Double Crossing" JOHNSON, or THE "Duel Devils" KENNEDY, administrations???  Apparently not on the nation scene, with the exception of few intellectual writers, a couple of obscure and totally despised and dismissed former Republican politicians, only one moderate voice, Paul Harvey, no one was speaking out for me .....until ... MR. RUSH LIMBAUGH.

When I heard him say, "It's lies, all lies, damned lies, and we didn't have to sit quietly and listen to it without saying so!!!!!!.." Whoa!!! YES!!! Who was this guy?? How could he say these things, and get away with it?? How long before someone in a position of power hears him, and shuts him down.. HA! In the interim, I'm going to do everything I can to encourage him, amplify his words, promote his station, and get as many others as I can to do the same. I think I opened the very first Houston "RUSH ROOM", a lunchtime, radios blasting Rush showcase.

At first, the culture shock and my blatant bias worked to the detriment of my own business. However, within 3 months we were packed again, only with a different mix of people ..these were for the most part ...LOL.. the new choir. When it started, people would look around and wonder what was happening. Arguments broke out spontaneously, and people listened intently, and commented across tables, and between strangers, among the classes and cultures ..it was a nervous, high five, laughing, red-faced, shouting mix of radicals. To say the least, not everyone agreed with my change of atmosphere, I was screamed at, and scolded, and cursed, and applauded, and yes ...thanked!

Rush, you may not be able to hear me, but thank GOD, I can still hear you. You are and always will be an inspiration to hard core conservatives, and clear thinking people of the world. Just thought someone should say so...
God Bless you Rush, I love you my friend!

I've had the luxury of listening to all three hours of Rush's show for the past 11 years or so. There has never been ANYONE speak to me that much - for that long. (Yeah, I know, the impeached *Squirt tried awfully hard at it...) I've always wanted to tell Rush that I consider him a good friend. Now, he'll just have to read it.

Does anyone know how to display "Ditto" in sign language?

Please post it...

As I posted earlier, Rush introduced me to conservative activism. But did he influence me in other ways??

Let's see: I bought, read and re-read both his books; subscribed to his newsletter for a few years; never missed his television show when it was on the air ; AND was introduced to some fine products, such as Rush Limbaugh neckties, Paul Shanklin, Snapple, fine cigars and Mannheim Steamroller.

But no one does what he does as well as he does it. He is irreplaceable. That jovial voice has changed, but he still says a lot of what has to be said, and he says it like no one else is saying it.

So very, very right.

First of all, I want to thank my frat brother John for turning me onto Rush in 1989. I semi-listened to him back then, but became a full-time listener during the Bush the Elder/x42 campaign in '92. Following that disastrous election night, he kept me going until the '94 sweep, which I believe he had just as much a role in as Newt, King Bubba, and Hillarycare. I might have gone nuts last year if it wasn't for him keeping me going during the Battle of Florida.

To a true American, thank you for all you've done, and will do, this adult beverage is for you, Rush.

He's my hero, too. Not only does he point out the lies and deceptions of the liberals, but he also patiently explains EXACTLY why it is CRUCIAL that we thoroughly understand the truth. The most recent example of this was his reaction to Clinton's atrocious anti-USA speech the other day. Rush passionately but carefully laid out the truths about this country and what we alone did to stop slavery, etc. and explained WHY it is so essential to see how self-fulfilling and harmful opinions like Clinton's are to this great nation.

The man only appears to be puffing out his chest. When it counts, he is actually quite level-headed and modest. He is not joking when he gives G-d credit for his talent; he means it.

I first heard of him while living overseas. All (liberal) American publications were talking about this hideous monster shock-jock! When he was to appear on Jay Leno (NBC Superstation broadcasts in Europe), I couldn't wait to see this loud-mouthed creature! To my utter surprise, he was normal, decent, and good. Upon my return, I began listening to him, and he articulated so much of what I was thinking. It's been a good 7 years now, and I feel blessed to be able to listen to him.

Rush, if you are reading this thread, know that your ability to sift to the meat of a matter and your tenacity toward truth give meaning to thinking conservatives every day. Bless you and may G-d keep loaning you that talent for 50 more years.

One day this past week, Neal Boortz had a caller who wanted to be quite critical of Rush. Neal was indignant, and talked about what a debt conservative talk show hosts owe to Rush. Neal said that were it not for Rush's courage and talent in paving the way, he (Neal) would still be trying to make a living as a lawyer specializing in who knows what, and earning a lot less money.

I started listening about 1989, and was incensed to learn about the congressional bank and post office scandals. Been listening faithfully ever since.

Rush, you are quite a guy. Keep it up.

The way Rush is handling his hearing problem is an inspiration. I am grateful that his voice is still loud, clear and powerful; even though he can no longer hear.

I pray that he'll continue to speak the truth for a long long time!

Dan Patrick, a young feisty Irishman, and former Houston sportscaster

Dan Patrick is great! And mostly responsible for the plight Bill Maher finds himself in. Dan was the man that called for the sponsors to dump Maher's show. Dan Patrick is a Houston treasure!

We just want to say "ditto". We have loved Rush from the first time we listened to his program when we were living in Massachusetts and the evil doer "Clinton" was a candidate for the Presidency. (Thank goodness we're in Arizona now.) Rush has been a God send! We wish him all our best.

I started a new job on August 1rst 1988, one that required alot of travel. I was searching the radio stations and came across Rush. "This guy is great" I thought and have listened to him ever since. I plan my day around listening to his show. I usually hear him live for the first hour and then after checking on my accounts I can listen to the last two hours on a tape delay on WHO in Des Moines, Iowa. Some of the things I remember fondly are "Gorbasms", dumpster dining, homeless updates, Mick from the high mountians of New Mexico, enviromental wacko picks, and on and on. Dan's Bake Sale and the 94 election were turning points in Rush's history. After 94 he had to be much more serious, before then he was REALLY funny. The parity's that Shanklin does have become classics to. I about drove off the highway the first time I heard Barney Frank on "Simply Reprehensible". Remember when Rush endorest Bill Clinton before the 92 election. Everybody's jaw dropped. But he made a great point. I haven't agreed with Rush on everything (NAFTA) but he is like an old friend who calls five times a week. Mega-Dittoes Rush, and thanks for the memories.

oh Carlo I just love Rush. Thank you so much for this thread .

FallGuy and I heard him the first time in August of 1988. We were driving from Georgetown and D.C. to go visit his family in New York.We had been working in D.C. on a film and when we heard Rush we both said at the same time......"I sure hope we can get him on the radio when we get back home to California"

We were thrilled when we got home and he was on in our area.Since 1988, we have not missed a single show.

Thank you soooo much Carlo3b.

NO WAY!! Really? The Lovable Fuzzball?! You can tell an effective RightWinger by the hatred he/she generates on the Vile Left, and as nice and polite and merciful as Limbaugh has been to LeftWingers, many choose to still hate him for the simple reason that RUSH IS EFFECTIVE!!

One day, I hope to be amply EFFECTIVE in my ongoing efforts to Bring Der SchleekMeister to Justice that the Bent One is quoted by a reputable source--or even better, RECORDED--saying, "I LOATHE MUDBOY SLIM!!" LOL...It's what drives me.

"...one of the 5 greatest Conservatives in world history!"

Nobody gets away with making a statement like that without being asked, "So, Cap'n, who are the other four?!" Reagan's obviously one of them, and I'd have to put Goldwater in there...but who else?! And remember, Conservatives haven't been around all that long, so the list of candidates should not be too expansive. For instance, the Founding Fathers were Radical Progressives more than Conservatives...and Abe Lincoln shore wadn't no Conservative.

Good parlor game question, though....
