Somebody should.

Falwell and Robertson both behaved like insufferable self-righteous fat-fingered pharisees.

The Bible does not state anywhere, that God smashes airplanes loaded with innocent women and children into the side of the World Trade Center, to punish America for having too many homosexuals, pagans, and atheists.

I don't think Thomas Jefferson would be apologizing. He once said, "Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his Father, in the womb of a virgin will be classified with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.

Gee, isnt' that special.

Can you tell me you think you are to gather that God turned 5,000 innocent mothers, fathers, daughters and sons into a substance that resembles what you scrape off the bottom of your barbeque grill?

All of us who read the bible and try make our lives right with God would like to know your secret as to how you are so blessed by Him that you are able to interpret his will in such a way.

Yuck!

The sins and wickedness of people in America are causing God to remove His hand of protection from our nation.

My first question is, why did He wait so long? Was there some one sin committed by someone somewhere that put the country over the threshold of Divine blessing?

My second quesiton is, if Christians pray for God's blessing in America, they must believe God does not answer their prayers, if what is happening to America is God's action. But if God does not answer their prayers, why do the pray?

If God does answer the prayers of Christians for God's blessing on America, then 9/11 must be God's answer to those prayers and an example of God's blessing.

Since Roe v. Wade, over 40 million Americans have lost their lives to the abortionist's trade...

That's the WTC times 7000. Chilling thought, eh?

Of course that isn't counting the probable 100's of millions of deaths worldwide, all helped along by American attitudes and practice in affirming a 'woman's right to choose'.

What did Jerry Falwell say that was so awful?

Nothing. He just offended the "wrong" people, i.e. the media.

Anyone, peacenik or preacher, who spouts the "we brought it on ourselves" line is a traitor.

What did he say? He said that the sins and wickedness of people in our nation are causing God to remove His hand of protection from our nation. He specifically mentioned homosexuals, lesbians, feminists, abortion and a few other sins.

Had he included himself in with the litany of sinners, as St. Paul said "of whom I am foremost...," maybe Falwell would have received a different response.
Maybe he just forgot the Scriptural admonition that "there is none righteous, no not one."

Where exactly in the Bible, and I am a Christian that has read it probably ten times or more, does it say that God has a hand of protection over any other country besides Israel for obeying Mosaic law? As Christians, our duty is not to obey Mosaic law. We are freed from the law, or have you not read Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians, and Galatians? We are conformed to the image of the Son through acceptance of the Holy Spirit and the gift of grace bought by the blood of Christ on the cross. We are cleansed from the inside out, not from the outside as the law cleanses. Our command is to love even our enemies, and to carry the good news to all the world, then let the Holy Spirit worry about the sins of the new converts. Please, please, show me where the United States gains God's protection by obeying Moses law, which was given to the Israeli's for the specific purpose of producing the Messiah, which has already happened. Man and God have been reconciled. You and Jerry Falwell simply live according to the rules that existed before He came. Oh you foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?

Glad Falwell apologised. Too little too late but better than nothing. No need to apologise for the Gospels however. THEY are not the problem!

There is no question in my mind that the writer and Falwell single out genunely sinful and harmful items. There is no question in my mind that they aren't good for America, and bring on it all manners of undesirable consequences.

My problem is with the implied one for one correspondennce. It is with the writer's absolute assurance that if America does well, things will go well; if it does badly, things will go badly — with the implied corrollary that if things are going poorly, then America must be doing poorly, and if things are going well, America must be doing well.

This is the same assumption that Job's friends brought to that situation, and they were wrong. (Besides, isn't that roughly the same line of argument the Clintonolaters used? "Impeach him? Look at the economy! He's a great president!")

Identify modern movements that are sinful as sinful? Amen, go to it.

State that sinful behavior brings bad consequences, sooner or later? Amen, do it.

Say that Event B was directly caused by God because of Behavior A? Without specific Biblical authority, I do have problems with that.

None of us were surprised to hear Falwell recant on account of his love for man's approval rather than God. He's based his whole life on man's approval.

Very sad, very sad.

We won't apologize for God's Truth and then expect God to bless America. Mr. Falwell, you had it right-you had no business apologizing.

This guy still doesn't get it.

Falwell wasn't apologizing for the Bible, but rather for misapplying scripture in order to dump judgement and condemnation on those groups he doesn't like.

He was one of many delusionsal individuals who claimed Sept 11 was God exacting vengence for their personal pet peeves. (some environmentalists even claimed God was mad because Americans drive big polluting SUVs).

The idea that anyone would exploit such a horrific crime against so many humans as an opportunity to push their agenda is warped and meanspirited.

Perhaps when Mr. Falwell and the above author are in the hospital with some terminal disease, someone should show up and tell them it is really God punishing them for some sin they or their family has committed.
Sick.

God does not move away from us, HE is always there for us if we reach out to HIM. No, HE does not leave us, it is this nation that has left HIM. We have taken HIM out of our schools, our public squares that are not allowed to honor HIM with a nativity scene, in order not to "offend" non believers. How Long, just how long does anyone think this nation can go on and expect HIS protection against evil. It is this nation that needs to return back to HIM.

Where does it say int the bible that the USA has a shield of protection around it?

Where in the bible does it state that Christianity is a nation builder?

Are we protected because we have such godly seers as Mr. Mays?

God blesses those who love him and choose to follow him (His church)regardless of where they live. Belief that a nation is blessed because of it's number of believers is absurd. This seminary educated pastor, like Falwell and Robertson, should think before they claim Gods will.

We have a hard enough time witnessing to the unbelievers without having to explain the rantings of people like these who claim to be pastors.
