Well, I just finished installing Windows XP on my computer. It did not go nice and smooth. I ended up reformatting my hard drive and starting from scratch. I know Windows XP sure does not like AOL 6.0. I am in the process of downloading AOL 7.0. I am still installing all my old software. Yes Windows XP locked up on me many times today and last night. Well, I guess I just would like to know how every one else is doing with Windows XP.

I dont believe you are wrong . What I would do is hire a FReeper to disable what I did not like , or buy something else . CC and hundreds of others here swear by mac 's . Security Holes? Where? Like I said if you run the firewall with XP your machine will be stealthed from the internet.

And for copy protection. I say it's about time. Do you lock your house and car when you're not at home? Isn't it a bother to have to carry all those keys with you? Why not leave them unlocked and for that matter put a sign on your house saying it's unlocked and that there are no guns in the house? Until you're willing to do that I guess you'll have to agree activation is a good thing. Protecting intellectual property is very important.

Anyone can claim that Apollo 11 was all staged on a movie set, and then ask everyone to prove his allegation wrong. Privacy concerns are always valid when dealing with businesses or government, as are the concerns of business and government with fraud, theft, and terroristic sabotage.

Wiley, read the posts. He installed it on a virgin machine. He had no problems installing it. That is totally in your imagination. I never said that or implied that he had install problems. Quit repeating that and read the posts before you reply.

Don't install XP. It is the most invasive SW yet from Big Brother Bill. It will track EVERYTHING you do on and off the net and report it all back to Redmond everytime you log on to the internet (not just to Micosoft.com) and just for giggles malacious hackers will be able to take over your machine and/or identity (credit cards, SSN#) like never before.

Didn't you leave out the part about "the sky is falling"? This is utter nonesense. Anyone with a brain runs ZoneAlarm and/or a hardware equivalent that will prevent anything from going out of or in to their computer that they don't know about.

Now in my day, sonny, we had 35 baud (that's right, 35 baud not 35K baud, 35 baud) and only paper tape for output.

We really have come a long ways - helped to a large extent by a visionary named Gates who established The Standard. For better or worse, it became the standard that allows virtually anyone on this planet to communicate and share text, graphics, video, etc., etc.

Good luck. I was a beta tester and can tell you that I think it is a piece of crap. Oh it is a more stable OS for MS programs. The biggest complaint I have with it, is that it wants to take over all your peripherals. Huge conflicts with programs like Adaptec, HP Scanner programs, PhotoImplant SE and others. There was also problems with my Kodak Digital Camera, but I understand Kodak and MS arrived at a compromise on Kodak software.

Should I purchase a new computer in the near future I will request not to have XP installed. If it is, immediately upon receipt I will reformat with Windows ME. Just my opinion.

It went very well for me. I did have a slight problem with my SCSI RAID controller. The controller wasn't on the compatibility list and I received a couple of warning messages. But, the Win2K driver worked for it.

I do not like the new interface. I had to change it to Windows classic before I could stomach it.

I am stuck with AOL because I am way out in the country and have very limited ISP options.It is the most reliable one I have good access to. I never surf with AOL favorites or their screen ~ I pull up IE over top of AOL so all my links are in IE favorites folder not in AOL favorites folder ~ that is empty. The links are very easy to back up and reinstall in event of reformat. If I am lucky to get another good option for ISP later I will still have my links.
