"No more than 10% of the funds they've allocated.."

Well, that is a big nothing statement. In fact, it is very Clintonesque. Where is the money that they haven't allocated yet?

You have an awful lot of detailed information to be a member of the general public. Either you are blowing smoke, or you have a connection to the ARC.

As far as the overseas programs, I have no objection to them. I simply do not think they should be funded with money that the donors thought would be going to the victims of 9/11. Many of the overseas programs may be quite good...I have no idea. But I do not think they should use this 9/'11 money for them.

Interesting tactic, that, trying to drag in the imprisoned Christian women in Afghanistan. It doesn't have anything to do with my objection, however.

As I said, they are probably legally entitled to do this. Ethically, it stinks.

You attack posters who post information.

You defend people who steal from donors as they cry.

You cannot read or respond what is actually posted to you.

You have misstated what was said on Nightline and elsewhere.

You must be one sick person. Get some help.

The only connection I have with the red cross is

1 - I've donated to them SINCE 9/10/01 and

2 - I know how to type WWW.REDCROSS.ORG in my browser.

Here is a link so you dont have to type a thing. The little window pops right up with facts. Dont let that distract you though from thinking I'm part of the vast RC conspiracy.

Thank you for posting this article. I wondered what the hold-up was on distributing the money. Now we know that there is something wrong.

This may be another one of those instances where some individuals do not realize how much things changed after 9/11. I do not think the public will let the ARC conduct business as usual.

It feels more like I'm attacking posters who DONT post information. You haven't even told me if you've donated ANYTHING to the red cross since 9/10/01.

I have donated to them as well. I did it through both my church and through various collections in our area. Silly me, I didn't think I had to read the fine print on their web site, since they were all over the media asking for money to help the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

As I said, they are within their legal rights. This will, however, be a PR disaster from which they will take nearly a generation to recover. Such a shame.

Why are you so adamant that this is a GOOD thing? Do you not realize that many, many people will view this as cheating? The next time there is a disaster, they will have far fewer donors. This shabby and duplicitous act will not only hurt the 9/11 victims, but victims of disasters that haven't even happened yet.

The Red Cross, on the other hand, charged the victims for even the doughnuts that they had.

I once worked with a man that was in the Army, stationed in Alaska. When they had their huge earthquake (1960's), he was on guard in downtown Anchorage to keep out looters. He said the Red Cross had emergency shelters set up and when he asked (in freezing weather) for a cup of coffee they charged him for it.

OTOH, I had two brothers in the service, both overseas at the same time, one Navy, one Air Force. One was killed while on duty (not war)...It was the Red Cross that got the other home for the funeral.

Fair enough. I think we both agree on this.

Call us cruel, but some of us don't have a problem that our money is going to help those young Christian college students who were arrested in Afghanistan and will probably be raped and killed by the taliban. Those girls are americans too.

What? Do you have some kind of crystal ball that lets you know that your money is going to help a few American girls in Afghanistan? Maybe its going to 'help' Albanian Muslims. Maybe its going to 'help' distribute condoms. Give me a break. I don't like being lied to by the Red Cross; just like I didn't like being lied to by Bill Clinton. Liars stink. I don't care what YOU think the money should be used for....that's not the point.

I thought about donating money to the Red Cross, my dad told me not to even think about it.l

My late grandfather was a WWI hero. After a lengthy tour, his unit returned to friendly territory and there was the Red Cross, with fresh made ham sandwiches for the soldiers. He went to get one, and found that they werent giving them to the soldiers, they were selling them. He was totally disgusted. Later, still in Europe, coming back to friendly territory, he saw them again, this time with clean, fresh t-shirts. Think they would give them to the tire filthy soldiers? No f-----g way, for sale only.

Just a mile away, The Salvation Army had fresh, clean t-shirts too. As many as the soldiers wanted, for free. They get my money over the UW or the Red Cross, any day of the week. Unless I give it to FR of course...JFK

Your Red Cross facts shows how they are spending $300 million of the $580 million collected-

The other $280 million goes where ?

Most of those in opposition to your defense of the Red Cross don't quite get your motive. You have some connection all right. Are you some kind of, "Paid Volunteer"? Otherwise known as a shill?

if you would go to the american Red Cross site they do have the parting words of Dr. Healy and I hope you read them...any problem that the Red Cross has had is not of her making..

I heard her entire press conference. I know why she resigned. I agree with her reasons and applaud her actions.

I'm not sure what that has to do with my suggestion that FR strip the Red Cross of their link on the front page. Clearly -- and Dr. Healy would probably agree -- they're not worthy of it.

Well, I can only question 10% of the money they've allocated - for the overseas program. (I say allocated because they've certainly not spent it all yet.) And even the overseas program can be justifed by what has happened in Afghanistan and what will happen.

When it comes to others, I think people like Diogenesis are full of evil by repeating facts that simply don't exist. The nice thing about the red cross is all these programs existed prior to 9/11. They've just been able to fund them to a greater proportion since. Its not like they're out buying new SUVs or taking Christmas bonuses. They're in a tough business. Its like being the only rich relative in the family the day before you die.

I respect you for your views. I hope you'll read the red cross website. As for diogensis, I have no use for him. He posts with his eyes closed and his mind shut.

The Red Cross is going to have a lot of questions to answer to. If that money is not distibuted to the victims and their families, the next time they put their greedy little hands out the money will be very slow in coming. The article in the Washington Post just burns me.

Healy insisted on keeping the disaster relief funds separate from the rest of the Red Cross's contributions, and she refused for several weeks to cooperate with other groups' efforts to record how much relief individual families were receiving from the various Sept. 11 funds.

so in other words they collect but are not accountable to who recieves this money

Thats the point - my point - we are past what anyone thinks the money should be spent on. Its already been allocated and accounted for. Deal with it.

Have you given anything to the red cross since 9/10/01?
