AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 279) [Remember the Trade Center!!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | October 26, 2001 | All of Us

Posted on 10/26/2001 4:29:08 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

Good Morning!!

Do not let them die in vain!!

There a lot of stuff to get everyone up to speed this morning, so I'm breaking the opening rant into sections.

ANTHRAX ATTACK

Another confirmed case of pneumonic anthrax - the postal worker in Sterling, VA, is diagnosed with the malady.

Anthrax has been found at the CIA, though termed "medically insignificant".

Anthrax has been found at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

Anthrax has been found in a mail sorting facility in Manhattan.

Another possibly tainted envelope was reported at the New York Post, though it is likely "collateral mail".

Several suburban mail facilities in Washington, DC, are undergoing tests for anthrax.

Over 10,000 mail workers are on antibiotics.

CDC has changed policy regarding treatment of anthrax: exposed people should get 60 days of antibiotics, not the current 10 they are receiving. Pneumonic victims to receive multiple antibiotics - Cipro and at least two others.

SOUTH ASIA THEATER OF OPERATIONS

US warplanes and Northern Alliance troops step up attacks around Mazer-e-Sharif, though it is uncertain when the city will be captured.

Northern Alliance would like the United States to step up its attacks. The United States bombs Kabul and Kandahar.

Two American fighter aircraft narrowly missed a SAM shot.

There is growing criticism the United States is conducting the war too slowly.

Uzbekistan agreed to open some of its river ports to allow relief supplies to go to Afgoneistan.

HOME FRONT

The last President was mailed salmonella.

The Senate overwhelmingly (98-1) approves anti-terrorism legislation. The President to sign it today.

Groups have appealed to Tom Ridge to fortify the Nation's nuclear reactors.

A $1.4 billion package for emergency preparedness has been introduced in the Senate.

The UNITED WE STAND postage stamp will be available November 1 in Post Offices in Washington, DC, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

OTHER ITEMS

I learned this morning that another worker in my building - someone whom I've known almost since the first day I worked here, 14 years ago now - had her mother pass yesterday. I would ask for your prayers for her.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

What a nice thing to say, gulfcoast6! Thank you!

I want to put in a plug for Billies USO Canteen thread. I just went there and not only are there lots of neat graphics, there is a note from Snow Bunny that she has sent the url to BOB HOPE and he is lurking!! Also many USO groups are giving Free Republic's address on their bulletin boards.

ANd, Billie has hooked up some great old songs that one can play! I am currently listening to "I'll Be Seeing You." Stop by and visit if any of you have time.

On a different subject, not all explosions are bad. My brother-in-law is a certified "blaster" in Nashville and sent me this pic of one of his undertakings. I just thought it was kinda neat! I'd like to think it was the entrance to bin Laden's hideout.

Cool picture! That appears to be a limestone quarry. Mr. Marple helped start one of those several years ago.

He still has his "Blasting Handbook" from college. One of my FAVORITE old books! Ha!

RE: #62

I would like a heavy magnification of the top of the dust plume. I think The Evil One is indeed there.

If only!

I am here. Why is Bernadette Healy resigning as head of the Red Cross?

President Bush signed the anti-terrorism bill and gave a short speech. It was very strong, and very serious. He appeared to link the anthrax to the 9/11 events. Cheney was there and Tony Snow said he had been a driving force in getting this through Congress.

Good news: My niece's husband, the one who was diagnosed with meningitis on Wednesday is improved enough that he may come home today. The doctors initially thought he had bacterial meningitis, the much more serious kind, but no culture has grown so now they think it's viral meningitis. He's had a lot of doctors and medical students to see him because meningitis is relatively rare.

And speaking of Manchester, TN, kachina, that's where he lives. And that's where I may live some day. My mom told me about another house that is for sale there. Not quite the bargain basement price that other one was, but it's bigger and probably more suited for our family. When my niece's husband is well, I'll ask him for input on the rental market as we'd need to rent it out for a while.

Sorry, Jane. Meant the "Star".

b4 - I doubt very much whether the Yankees need my support to win yet another World Championship.:^).

Chairman - Understand your wish for a break and getaway.

The first 2 weekends in Nov, I should be okay to at least start the threads, if you would like.

Then, for Thanksgiving time, ditto.

In between is my surgery which will put me out of commission for a few days....

You a Beattles fan, Jane? At least you could find reason to be a fan of Paul McCartney. Here's a quote from him (lifted from the MRC cyberalert) in answer to a question of why he organized the concert for New York:
"I also want to do it because the Mayor and the President have told me that this is the way to go, and what, who am I to argue with that? Let's listen to the bosses, for one. Let's show some respect. I think the day it happened I heard someone say, 'Well, we got this knucklehead for a President.' I said, ‘Okay, listen to me, stop there. Yesterday he might have been a knucklehead. Today he's not. Listen to me, he's your President. Get with it.' And you know, I'm not normally that political, but I think that you've got to do that in these circumstances. You certainly don't want the Indians fighting the Indians. I mean, people have got to rally. So I'm doing it and if one or two people might think it's cynical, so what? You know, I don't care. I'm doing it for reasons I know are good reasons. And it will help people."
Alright, alright, not the greatest pro-Bush quote, but I like the fact that he did defend him and urged others to get behind him.

Sorry, Yank, I don't have a clue. He just said it was in Manchester. He's got some great stories about learning to do this. It is VERY precise and not just a matter of shoving some ANFO down a hole and making it blow up.

Shortly after Guy (his name) started there, one of the old-timers miscalculated, and blew a rock of about 20 tons up in the air where it promptly landed on another workers pick-up truck! Fortunately, no one was in it at the time.

Guy has become so skilled at it that now many of the quarries around central Tenn. request that he design and execute the job. I've seen some videos of some pretty amazing things he's done with explosives.

Are you up very early? or up very late?? LOL!

Found your December essay fascinating.

And it's not only the Chinese who've failed to come to terms with the country's past.

How about America's leftists??

And a friend of mine, liberal & confused to the core, the daughter of Chinese missionaries, she was a girl there in the 20s and into the 30s when they were forced to return here.

She justifies the killings, and the forced abortions, family control, on the need to prevent over-population!!

C-H-E-E-S-E alert!!

I am now the absolute most upset, more upset than I could have ever conceived humanly possible.

My favorite Chinese food takeout place - the last one in the neighborhood of the office - closed!

Ugh! What am I to do?

Guess it's Subway!
