How do Afghan dudes meet the Afghan babes?
Vanity ^

Posted on 10/23/2001 4:04:05 PM PDT by hawaiian

This is admittedly a strange topic, and it is a pure vanity post, but I have been wondering this now for about 3 days, and I can't figure it out. If the women in Afghan women have to be completely covered when they go out in public, HOW do Afghan guys and gals hook up? How does an Afghan guy make a judgement about whether the Afghan gal is hot or not? And what kind of social events are there that provide opportunities for Afghan flirting, etc? This makes no sense to me? How does an Afghan guy get interested in, and revved up for, an Afghan woman, and how do they proceed towards marriage? I'm all ears.

I was talking to a lady today who lived several years in Saudi Arabia during the late 80's. Her observations make the blood run cold. Her husband was at that time working for a branch of Texaco....Western women had to wear long black garments. They had to go to market with groups of other women, not solo. If a neighbor man offered to drive her to market and did so, she would be arrested for adultery.

She is a redhead, and one day got a tap on the shoulder at the market. An Arab in impeccable white robes told her she must immediately purchase a head covering as it was Ramadam month, and her uncovered red hair "offended him", and that he would follow her till she bought one, which she did....One night, she was at a friend's party and she and other guests sat on his balcony in the darkness. That's because women guests were smoking and would be reported if seen. Across the street was a building under construction. This site was used as a rape site for 4 Muslim women literally grabbed off the street. They were murdered after the rapes. The womens' families were paid "black money", after which the case was closed. This is a frequent occurence as there is plenty of pay-off money in Saudi.

Public executions were common during her stay. One unfortunate Phillipino was caught stealing some batteries. His right hand was chopped off in the execution area. Westerners never went near these killing fields as they would be forced to stand in the front. The Phillipino was taken home, but when the authorities learned he was left-handed, they chopped off his other hand.

A Saudi prince at that time built a huge and costly sports stadium. It's a beautiful modern design, copying the graceful lines of bedouin tents. In many of the facilities in the stadium, plumbing fixtures were 24-carat gold, not gold-plate. The track and field itself can be raised or lowered in entirety for irrigation purposes. The stadium was constructed by a German firm by the name of "Hoffman". My lady friend's husband was a friend of a German representative of the firm who met with the Saudi Prince several times. In his last meeting at the Prince's palace, the German made the mistake of criticizing some of the Prince's plans. The Prince opened a drawer and shot and killed the German. As usual, plenty of "black money" was paid to the family in Germany, and, again, it was "case closed".

Just a few vignettes about life in in the peaceable kingdom of Saudi Arabia among peaceable Muslims from someone who lived among them for years.

Naw, I just had to do a book report on Muslim mating habits, and I remember most of what I read. Kandahar is Party Central for the rockin' Taliban!

These backward camel captains are even more primitive than I thought. Just a bunch of savages drowning in American dollars.

When the children are babies, if the Afghans are not part of royalty, the parents often make arrangements. However, the groom or family of the groom must buy the bride. Since girls do not have a potential for economic gain, such as working with their fathers, the family must realize an economic gain from their intended spouses.

Depending on the wealth of the family and/or groom, a bride might cost as much as 1 camel, 1 or 2 sheep, a baby water buffalo, or a donkey. The really wealthy will give gold, or land for their brides. This is called Baqshes.

Many times if the groom and his family is poor, he might be 30 before he can afford to buy a bride. In the meantime, you see the Afghan men walking down the street holding hands or themselves which ever is closest.

On the wedding night, a family member from both familes sits outside the door and keeps guard. They are there to make sure that the bride is a virgin and that the marriage is consumated. If the groom decides that the bride was not pure, he returns the bride and they must return the presents. She lives in shame the rest of her life in her parents home if they will have her.

Your post is just......priceless. Really.

Let me inform you that not all of the world consists of guys walking around looking for hot babes to flirt and hook up with. Surprising though it may seem to you, even here in the good ol' U. S. of A. until just a few decades ago, most men courted a woman when they were ready to marry. There was no trial and error. And it was for better or worse. :)

Yes, parents arrange marriages for their children with children of their friends.

Can you imagine how embarrassing it must be for a prospective groom to tell his folks, "Remember, Mom & Dad, I want BIG hooters."

Given the rotten state of marriage in America, something must be said for an arranged marriage. I am not promoting it, but there is an unlying assumption of responsibility.

Doubtless you intended to say "underlying"...but "unlying" in this context is no less true.

Considering how flippantly people treat marriage today, in these days of no-fault divorce and homosexual "marriage", I would be not be surprised that most married couples have no idea about what makes a true marriage. Nor would most young people know what qualities to look for in a future spouse.(Not that I presume to know them better, either; otherwise I'd be married.)

In such societies women are chattel( the h is actually superfluous) they are bought, sold, traded and disposed of.

Akmed talks to Sharif who he knows is getting tired of his third wife cause she's already popped two girl babbies and no boys and tells him "Man have I gotta deal for you. The thirteen year old daughter of my second wife is available. She's hot man. Really developed ( universal hand gesture here) if you know what I mean.?"

Sharif though, knowing the girl is horse faced, drives a hard bargain. "Do not even THINK that you will get my Kalishnakoff for her Akmed. Usma across town has already offered me both his only moderately flat chested daughters for the Kalishnakoff. I will give you my old Smith & Wesson with the crooked front sight."

"And a full clip" says Akmed.

"Deal."

So I made a typo, eh? I saw your personal page. I lived in Canada several years and enjoyed it. Kitchener-Waterloo.

Yes, what you say is correct. Now very few children even know what it means to grow up with both of their parents under the same roof. Even in rural Arkansas they must treat the picking up of children as a security risk. A child may not go home in a car unless it is carrying the approved sign with that child's name on it. We were happy that our son married a woman whose parents were always married to each other.
