The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Yeah, but we can get TRD to bring the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! :-)

Wait till you find out about the other, ascetic, requirements.

So "till" means when I find out I'll no longer have to pursue any other knowledge? :-)

What, SD is playin 'cut and paste' responses.. has the world come to an end or is the image cracking.. LOL. Dave, tell me you checked your sourcing, As much as ya'll nag on us and as big a mess as Pegleg got in by not checking his, I'm going to roll out of my chair and cause a cubicle scene in a moment. LOL. Or are all Catholic sources reliable (as pegleg's)? LOL. Not to impugne Peg or anything - I think he may have learned some lessen from that..

Sarah's is doing fine. Eating rice cereal once or twice a day. Sleeping through the night, though sometimes we have to put her to bed three or four times before she sticks. She's learning to talk and I swear she can say "OK," which is a fairly common word. One day Sharon was holding her over the shoulder and she had spit up a bit and I was wiping her face and she said "OK." Sharon and I thought we were dreaming for a second, it was that clear.

You can put me on your list. How does it work?

I don't recall pegleg getting into source trouble. I do know that I give a Catholic the benefit of the doubt. It certainly looks more thorough than quoting a non-existing work. Baptists have no credability on history.

Calling up dead people is a no-no. How can you contradict the commandment of God in the O.T.??

Where do you figure all of these "dead" people are?

As to "saint worship", I would again remind you that those in Christ, though they die, yet they are alive. Thus, we can ask their prayers. We honor the saints as Christ's friends, and those through whom God has shown forth his Uncreated Glory. The veneration of saints is a natural secondary outgrowth of the worship of the source of the Uncreated Glory (God), but is not worship itself.

I would remind you that images made of the saints and mary as objects of adoration are in direct violation of the commandment to the contrary - no matter how it is worded, painted or him-hawed around. The saints are alive in Christ but dead in the flesh, including Mary. As such, speach to them is the same as speaking to any other that is not with us - Jewish law forbids it and the Lord came to fulfill, not put away the law. Your doctrines cannot break the laws and commands of God and be other than disobedience - no matter how much I may like you. You cannot violate the law of God and make doctrine of doing so and yet call yourself obedient.

By the way, glad to get a response. Thank you. Too often protestant posters refuse to answer me.

If you had'nt said something, I might not have responded. I didn't see it posted. Happy to answer.

The fun is only beginning, Dave. Hannah's moved on to solid, big people food and will still sometimes eat her cereal and baby food. Words include dada, mama, car, bird, kitty, dog (and woof), and (get this) calculator (although it sounds like cagalagal). She's been walking all over the place this week, too.

Enjoy every minute of it ... I sure am!

That's not the issue. The issue is the commandment of God.

Which commandment of God? The one about talking to dead people? Well, it very much matters if you think dead people are dead, or if you think they are alive.

Was Samuel dead when the witch of endor conjured him up? That was a no-no.

You can put me on your list. How does it work?

Well I had originally thought we were going to be able to store a 'topic" list on FR..so anyone posting a piece that would be of interest to a certain group could simply put in the "key word" and the whole list would be bumpted...but ends up my info was wrong..so seeing I am on line alot..I will just keep an eye out and if something is posted that I think the spiritually minded might be interested in, I will bump it for now.

So it might be an article on a Saint,or an article on a a Baptist convention ..(for the crusade thread for example) It might be just a meditation or sermon..or a news story on a specific church...

For many it will be a read and ignore..for some it will be read and comment..for some it will be war..

But hopefully when fully implemented at least no one will miss a thread..

If someone posts something they want bumped for now they can flag me (till FR really does store Bump lists)

Someone had a Catholic Thread the other day that looked like an attempt to get an RC bump list together..so I am not going to do that...but I will make a list of RC that like to fight (discuss :>) with protestants for those special warm and fuzzy moments * grin*

I am impressed that Sarah is "eating " all ready..before you know it she will want the car keys!

There you have it, iconoclasm is back. So when do you want to start smashing the icons? Seems like it was just 1200 years ago at Nicaea II this was settled.

Deut. 18:9ff. Dead people; people who have died; people who have bit the dust; people who have expired, given up the ghost. Of course, their souls live on...but the commandment is not to call them up. Obey the word of the Lord! He has His reasons.
