The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Why thank you!

I've just kind of been lurking on this thread. I have contributed about 0.006212530674370204702885720498245% of it. Still it's fun to read. I do find myself getting bogged down on the Calvinist/Free Will and Infant/Adult baptism threads.

3. Conservative Protestant (95%)

Look out Dave! Don't tell your priest or you will be saying hail Marys for a long time to come. :)

It only goes to show, Mack, that apart from a few things that divide us, like sacraments and church authority issues, and justification, we're a whole lot closer than most people realize. I mean none of us think crystals are going to help us reach enlightenment, or that we are re-incarnated until we get it right or that homosexuals are oppressed by society. Ya know what I mean?

How did you miss it by 2%???

Or do you think that's the difference between "Conservative Protestant" and "IFBB"?

Isn't it also interesting how much closer you are to RC than "Liberal Protestant"?

Earth to Al. Wasn't going to happen. The Democrats would not budge.

Well, duh! However ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A final report by Independent Counsel Robert Ray concluded Wednesday that prosecutors had ample evidence for criminal charges against President Clinton in the scandal involving former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. link to rest of article

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. There must be many delusional theologians.

Theologians Assess ‘Ordinatio Sacerdotalis’

Bingo. They're called dissenters. I glanced at the page you cited and there are the usual types there. Arguing that the Pope or the Congregation have not made a clear argument from Scripture or Tradition.

Hello? We have 2000 years of Tradition making a very clear argument, likewise Scripture shows no female Apostles.

So you are right. Their are a lot of confused theologians. Thank God for Ratzinger.

Maybe the Pats will trade Adam Vinatieri straight up for him. Vinatieri is a short kicking bum anyway. ;)

I dunno Reg. A 45 yarder in a blizzard to tie up a playoff game aint too shabby. If you're talking about his kickoffs you could carry 2 kickers.

Theologians Assess ‘Ordinatio Sacerdotalis’

I won't go there till I'm home (not on a work computer), but why do I doubt that "womenpriests.org" has unbiased "theologians" doing their writting on the issue?

I don't think that this constitutes an "ex cathedra" statement. I do, however, think it's pretty darn close.

I also think that you are more likely to see female fundamentalist preachers before female priests (heck you're more likely to see the "all Taliban" issue of Playboy before female priests.)

I don't really disagree with you. Where we may differ in in belief that many "official" RC documents are deliberately written in an ambiguous manner. This serves two important purposes:

1. It provides employment for expert "interpretors" like SoothingDave.
2. It leaves an "opening" for change in the future.

How many times have we been over the contents of the Decretals, the other lists of forgeries and frauds like the 8 forged books of ignatious, I realize we haven't talked about the 40-50 forged gospels yet that your Church infallibly both wrote and took for original.

The contents of the Decretals? Um, never. There's been alot of bloviating about them but we've never actually looked at what is in them and what they say or what meaning they have in history. But that is another story.

You talk about forged Scripture and the decretals or Ignatius or whatever is not Scripture. Duh. Words mean things.

40-50 forged Gospels, eh? What the hell are you talking about now?

Anybody have a clue what Havoc is talking about?

Who exactly are these "Liberal Protestants"?

Methodists, some Lutherans and Presbyterians, Episcopalians. The old "Mainline Protestant" denominations.

How can everybody be closer to Islam than Lib Protestant

Social issues like abortion, probably.

Wondering that myself, I think it's a bad test:)

Isn't it also interesting how much closer you are to RC than "Liberal Protestant"?

As I have said numerous times, the RCC has stuff covered for anything anyone wants to believe, IMO:)

As I understand it, the finality of the all male priesthood is based on Sacred Tradition, not on the encyclical Ordinatio Sacerdotalis, which is not an ex cathedra pronouncement.

That great theologian SoothingDave doesn't agree with you. As a mater of fact, he calls you, and others like you, "delusional". So be it. SD has spoken.

Does that mean I'm saved? ;o)

SD was at 95%. Another year on this thread and he'll be helping you patrol the perimeter of the compound.
