I understand what the catholics think it means. That the church can make up rules. Ok, fine lets say that that is what it means. But what happens when those rules change?

God has a list of things we shouldn't do. They are called Commandments. I realize you probably don't think they apply to you because you are "saved," but most Christians try to adhere to them. Are they doing this as a "work"? Isn't God "forcing" us to follow them under threat of eternal punishment?

The fullfillment of the Commandments is Obedience to God. If it's work for you to be obedient, then you can call it work. If you want to play word games, then no, it isn't. Obedience is required for fullfillment of promise. If you can't be obedient, you have no promise. Simple as that. But, then, you need the word games to confuse terminology in order to make the statements harder to follow.

Yes, but Jesus knew their sin was the love of food, and had to say this to him to show them their sin. It isn't really meant to apply to modern Christians.

Why is it so important to you that we affirm, like you, that Mary is the "mother of God"?...Why is it not enough for you or the R Catholic church for us to say JESUS is GOD?

We want you to affirm it because it is true and because it will be one instance in which we can agree....

But what about my second question: Why is it not enough for you...(etc)?

I wasn't aware the RSV, Catholic edition differed from the RSV except it also had the Apocrypha. I found references in GOOGLE to a 1966 RSV Catholic Edition but could find no online editions. (For free, that is.) Since I have no intention of purchasing one, could you point to an online source?

If you go to "Browse the Bible", you can select individual books. The Apocrypha are listed at the bottom. I think they have a few things here that are not even in the Catholic Bible as well.

We agree (that's my wife and I, not the "royal 'we'"). Also - pray. Alot. Alot alot. (I know you knew this too, I'm reminding myself). We ought to start a day where we post pictures of our kids to show off God's design (not as a competion "OK, the Catholic kids are cuter... they must be right"). You guys with adult children would get special dispensation (ask a Catholic) to post older pictures or pictures of grandchildren depending on where the Spirit leads you :)

Uhhh... I disagree. Matt.6:16-18 Jesus knew they were fasting to get attention and rewards from people. He did not say fasting was right or wrong, just that it should be done for no EARTHLY gain.

Unless you are looking at a different scripture this is what I was referring to?

I think it was Angelo that pointed out "Binding and Loosing" was a matter of interpretation of the law. Interpretation does not include creating new law, it means understanding and applying what's there - fleshing it out. The RCC has created it's own definition of that term too.

When I was a child, I didn't have a choice as to what time I went to bed. Do/did you have kids? Do/did they have a choice as to whether or not to go to church? Children have to do a lot of things their parents decide for them.

Do I remember you saying you were brought up Catholic? I was, and I remember being frightened of going to Hell if I committed various and sundry "sins". It wasn't my folks who frightened me. It was the Church. A potential paddle on the bum is not quite as frightening as Hellfire. (I can still remember some of the very colorful pictures.)

After I posted that reply, I was wishing I had mentioned that I give every bit of credit to God for the way my children have grown up. They are so much better people then their father and I, I have no clue how they could be mine except by God's grace. (I think I'm going to cry:) HeHeHe, snif.

I didn't even have to type a whole page response. But if I did, the theme would be amazement that you would believe "obey the authority that is placed over as that authority comes from God" must refer only to temporal human authorities and assume that there can be no authority within any church.

I thought I covered this by saying, you agree to these authorities when you join a Church on your own free will, re-read the post.

Of course the Spirit guides this process, but He appears to be guiding you in all diferent directions (methinks He has a sense of humor?)

He certainly does, and that may be one of the things he likes about us.

Just as the fruits of the Holy Spirit are manifested in hundreds of different ways from Acts to Reverations, so we show that same Spirit in our diversities.

Tell me, which of the 12 apostles and Paul, James, Jude or Mark were alike?

Please show me scripture where it says that the proof of the Holy Spirit is that we will all speak as one, and be identical. (^g^)

A question for you: Why do you suppose Mary "did not understand the saying which he spoke to them"?

How does this answer the question? Are the people who ate meat when it was a sin and didn't confess before the died still burning in hell?
