The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

if they are not wrong why would that make her not spotless.

Having children would not cause Mary to lose her "spotless" state. Married sex is not a sin, nor is having babies.

I had a discussion with my cat today. He pretended he was listening, stuck his tail straight up in the air, put his ass in my face, and walked off. I'm going to change his name to SoothingDave.

I'm flatttered. Just don't get all scatological on me now.

Mary was saved by Christ before she was born. She was preserved from Original Sin in the womb of her mother and she was given special graces to resist temptation to personal sin. Rather than save her from "the hole" in which most of us find ourselves, Jesus saved her from ever falling into that hole.

I'll bet you can't even find corrobation for this fantasy in Douay-Rheims.

I have a confession to make. Some years ago, when I used to smoke the "deadly weed" I discovered I had lost all perception of time, space, and reality. It scared the hell out of me so I quit. About time for you?

What do all you TNSers believe about Satan? Is he real? What is his nature? What power does have really have?

Satan is a being created by God imperfect and lacking. He is the disciple of void/emptiness/nothing/evil, and strives against The Perfect, The Whole, The All. He is not anywhere near equal to God, but he is not pure evil either. Evil is anything laking, and away from God. Satan fights against that which IS, but he is not complete nothing himself. Satan was the first to turn away from God and thus he is evil, but not the creator of evil. Evil can't be created because it is not of God and God made all things. Evil is anything not of God, thus Evil is void. God "IS", evil is "not". But, Satan himself is not pure Evil, because he was created.

Mary was a spotless vessel to hold God Incarnate.

Constantly overrunning the point with a non issue and doubley so. Follow with me.

Mary was sinless.
Mary concieved and gave birth to Jesus
Anything Mary does after this has no effect on what happened before. (OOPS).
Mary had 4 boys and a number of Girls. Which has no backward effect on having had Jesus.

Your statements are nonesense. What you wish to argue *nonsensically* is that if you take a bowl of food, eat it (emptying it of food), then fill it with poison, you will now die because you injested poison. You need to call mr. Obvious badly; because those sorry men could use you for a real laugh.

If the baby is removed from the sinless body, the woman served her purpose. And at that point even if she were to have become a whore, her obligation was served and her actions could have no affect on the Lord's conception and birth. Mary did neither evil nor even wrong in having other kids. And have you ever considered how disrespectful it is to her knowing the Bible says she has other children while you stand and disown them.. oh, never thought of that, eh.

God is the

Cadillac,

Jesus is a

Fleetwood Cadillac.

Mary transported the

Fleetwood

to its destination,

So far this is a good analogy.

Mary is the Chevy transport truck that carried the Fleetwood Cadillac to its destination,

Does she then become a Coupe De Ville?

Some people just don't know their carrier from a Fleetwood sitting over a hole in the ground.((((chuckle))))

I have no problems with saying Mary is the mother of Jesus, but the RC doctrine states, correct me if I'm wrong, that Mary had to have been sinless in order to conceive Jesus in her womb, which implies that she passed on divinity to Christ, which is what I object to.

Rcc doctrine goes well beyond that. Their Doctrine paints God both as a liar and a transgressor of his own rules.

God cannot simply wipe away one's ability to choose. He cannot do it precisely because there is another involved - SATAN. Man in eden chose satan as their default ruler through rebellion. And God has put us all on a by choice service basis since the beginning. God basically said 'fine, you want the right to make choices, I'm going to honor them - even if it kills you.' Then man suffered the first boot print on the Butt - ever.. followed by, 'Get out of my Garden.'

If God could simply nullify Mary's ability to sin, there would be no need for Jesus - ever. But the RCC doesn't understand this basic spiritual truth. They don't seem to understand any save for the blatently obvious - and then only because it doesn't serve their purposes not to. I'm glad I'm not being infallibly taught faux truth by the RCC.

Mary being made free from OS is not why Jesus is God. Rather Jesus being God is why Mary was made free from OS. To be a worthy resting place for God himself.

You have no idea what you are saying - do you?! Blasphemy. Pure and simple Blasphemy. God CHOSE Mary because she had kept herself free from sin and lived righteously. God didn't break his own laws and transgress Mary's rights or those of the Devil in order to bring Christ into the world. Get thee hence! Don't blaspheme God!

This kind of garbage is an absolute lie of the Devil. And I can't understand how in the world it simply rolls off your fingers or tongues without a thought as though it were nothing.

If I give you a million dollars to give away for me, does that make you "rich"?

Vat II isn't saying that Mary was given a million to give away. They're saying that she co-owned the million - which is utter garbage; but, such is what we've come to expect from the Vatican.

As Christ came to the world through Mary, she still serves as a channel throuhg which all of God's graces flow. No, I'm not blind.

Mary dispensed nothing save for a baby into this world. Christ is the channel through which all comes. Mary just helped in making his death possible by giving birth to his living human form.

Catholic reporting in. Yes, Satan exists and furthermore I have never heard of a Catholic who denied the existence of Satan. Has anyone on this thread heard otherwise? When a study finds 17% of Catholics don't believe in Satan,I automatically question the entire study. Catholics, anyone disagree with my "feeling" that something is amiss?

Something amiss (giant conspiracy maybe?)? LOL. No. I've met Catholics, Lutherans, etc. that dont' believe in the devil. They're out there. It's a natural progression from the following of Doctrine that is flawed.

A sad condition among many of our local churches; too much PC, too little JC.

"Hey, I like that statement, can I use it?..."

You certainly may!

"To your question, every church I have been a part of has women as deaconesses and some teachers (to children and other women) but other leaders (pastors, elders and deacons) are men. Welcome and jump in anytime."

I don't know, but I'll bet very, very few churches in my area follow the Biblical model. I am glad to associate with one that does.

Peace,

re:2027

An interesting answer. I've never thought of it in quite those terms. Something to ponder and pray about.

I wonder how that applies to current events. Most specifically: if terrorism is evil and pacifists seek to pacify or make "peace" with evil as opposed to fighting and resisting evil, then is pacifism evil?

(For everyone) a few questions...
1. What sort of prayer practices do you engage in?
2. Is fasting a part of your spiritual discipline? If so, what do you see its purpose as being?
3. How do you reconcile the apparent pacifism of the gospel message (the "turn the other cheek" thing) with the need for defense against aggression?
4. How do you reconcile the gospel's call to poverty with actual practice in a culture which focuses on material gain?

1. Every morning I thank the L-rd for all that He has given me. The day , the beautiful view of His earth. the birds that sing etc....
Every evening I find a quiet time for a prayer closet. When something unexpected occurs during the day; I thank the L-rd.

2. Fasting is not part of my spiritual discipline. I claim the liberty of the Christ.
My discipline is to listen to approximately one hour of taped commentaries on the Word each day.
I have just finished Romans for the second time. I now go on to John.

3. There is no apparent pacifism in the gospel. That is de-construction by the Evil One. See Romans 13.

4. There is no call for poverty in the New Covenant. The L-rd allows me to have 90 % of what He would have me earn.
The L-rd of the Old Covenant is the same L-rd of the New.

Tehillim (Psalm) 81:15 Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.
Tehillim (Psalm) 81:16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."

I forgive you. I was going to send the Study to the Bishop charged by the National Conference of Bishops with Education but I thought that particular statement was so far off base that it would diminish my argument to him, which was going to start with "we have a problem".

Therefore I hoped to address it in a cover letter,in advance, so the whole study wasn't filed in the wastebasket. Even if there are only 20 regulars on the thread, their input, if it confirmed my belief, would have allowed me to include the fact that I recognized there were some data that were in error. Incorrect information is a real barrier to understanding and consequent resolution. And as Dave said there is a huge problem in education and catechesis.I was trying to get information to defuse a possible reason to ignore the primary findings which is that Catholics are doing a poor job of teaching and preaching.

Christendom and the safe harbor it provides for so many is on the wane, Islam is on the rise, I think this is not the time to be regaled by each others perceived shortcomings.

Only Protestants who can't follow logic think this. I am trying to get you to affirm that Mary, though she was but a Chevy truck, carried (Greek -tokos) a Cadillac. We call her the "Carrier of the Cadillac"

We don't assert she is herself a Cadillac. Only the confused who won't listen to a Catholic for even a second think that.

Now then. Jesus is a Cadillac. Mary is a Chevy truck that carried a Cadillac. Now will you join me in saying Mary is a Cadillac carrier?

Is Satan Real ?
Of Course he is .
Back to the poll . It may be accurate, but I sure hope it isn't. Being a poll, it is subject to all the shortcomings of political/sociological polls .(I'm straw-grabbing, I suppose .)
