The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Even the "T"?

Yep, even the "T".

Oh well, still a good analysis on my part, even if it doesn't directly apply to you. Does that mean that you think pagans could glimpse the Truth, or at least parts of it evident in nature?

Yes, I think pagans(unbelievers) can recognize the Truth in nature. Just read Romans 1:16-25.

I think I hit the nail on the head. Because of Calvin (sorry) and his total depravity, you see pagans as (duh) totally depraved. That means that their myths are dibolical attempts to pervert the Truth.
By recognizing a flawed but not wretched nature of man, we relize that pagans can catch glimpses of the Truth. It is not to pervert the Truth on purpose, but a true lack of understanding caused by not being subject to Divine Revelation.

That sort of sounds kind of like modern pop psychology. It's not their fault that they're bad. They just don't know the truth yet.

I think that satan definitly wants to pervert the truth and has been from the beginning, using whatever and whoever he can...on purpose.

One of the basic tenants of repentence is that we finally recognize that we *are* wretched creatures who have have been following our own, or satans, wishes and desires, and not Gods...on purpose.

And by "flawed", I hope you're not implying that God screwed up and created something he didn't mean to create.

That we are incapable of desiring anything that is good, right?

Sorry, I'm not buying it. I believe in free will.

No, I contrast "flawed" with "wretched." "Damaged" with "broken." "Partially depraved" with "totally depraved." Calvinists believe that nothing that man can choose is ever good, that every instinct is to the bad. I don't believe that.

There are many "Christians," including many progressive" Catholics" who are morally offended by the idea that God became fresh.

Where in scipture does God become flesh?

If you believe in free will then how come you were presenting the argument that pagans aren't choosing to reject God, only that they're uninformed?

Free will works both ways. One can choose to reject God, or one can choose to embrace him.

If I may ask, what was previously in the spot that her picture now hangs?

Looks like she's been there the whole time ...

Oh ... and I got the name wrong the first time, too. It's Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe. Go here if you'd like to see it for yourself.

Luke, from the beginning

First we hear that the Word was God, then we hear the tale of the Word being born.

Jn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jn 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

I nominate this as 'quote of the day'.

Nope ... doesn't qualify. It's from yesterday. Yesterday's a long time ago in this thread.

I agree with free will working both ways. I wasn't exactly arguing that pagans aren't rejecting God, I was arguing that their culpability is lower without having revelation. And that if their "gods" happen to image something of the true God, it could be explained as something other than the Devil perverting the Truth. It could be an honest attempt, sans revelation, to understand.

Al, let me apologize for sounding like you weren't doing enough.

Please ... no apologies necessary. I didn't take it that way. In fact, you helped my think more about it. I thank you for that.

The fact that you do think for your self and question things that just seem to happen when there is no one to account to, is saying a lot for you.

Something we should all consider. How do we learn or educate others without thinking and questioning?

I'm not implying that you have a good protestant attitude either, because I know you don't, but it is good to see you watch out for your own faith.

Something I've been trying to do in here since April. That said, I'll confront either side if I see error.

Thank you for that. JH

And thank your for the kind words. AC

If you have a photo, like you have one that you can hold in your hand, then you need a scanner to scan it in. Alternatively, most photo places will take your film or negatives and give you picture files on a CD.

Once you have the pictures as a data file, then you just need one of our friendly FReeper buddies to put it on one of their pages.
