Request for comments: new feature

I've been tinkering with a new way to do self-search. It will display the comments as if they were in a thread, but only displays those comments addressed to you or posted by you.

Have a look at it here:

Last 100 posts involving you -- in reverse chronological order, like latest posts

New posts to you (since last time you checked) -- in forward chronological order, like a normal thread

I think this should be listed in forward chrono order, but that might make browsing your self-search awkward.

I'll provide a way to see the full list of names. It will be something akin to clicking a "..." to see more names. You know, something cryptic. I love it!

Ohh! You're using the "New Style" template. That's been lagging behind in development. I'm focusing on the "Classic" template. I have no idea what you're seeing! Could be complete garbage. Try the "Classic" style (go to Settings on this thread)

Thanks a lot. That is a lot of work in there. Looks like it is up and running BEFORE THE CRUISE :P. Way to go! Enjoy the Cruise and will be looking out for threads posted under influnce as the week progresses:).

This will be neat especially if you know what the article is since it goes directly to your reply. But if you have not read the article, then you have to scroll back up to it or am I missing something. This isn't bad if you are answering a #10 reply, but if it is a #270, it may take awhile. :o)

OK, I'm on the same page of the playbook now. BTW, I like the look of the New Style in IE, the blue bars and such. But this is great too.

Seriously, it is realy nice. Do I assume correctly that you contemplate enabling a similar search of the fellow freeper of my choice a la "find in forum"?

probably be the final URL for self-search. I may bring it back one level to search all forums. (notice the "fr" in the URL?

?? ALL forums (fora?) ? Does that mean there actually are OTHER forums beside FR? (half-earnest, all fun)

And that if I were to find one and post it, you could and might track it down???

Hehe. Well, there is a Forum Advisory Board forum, but it hasn't yet been converted to this format. And there is a Moderators forum, which has been completely neglected! There may be other forums in the future, Jim will set those up if he wants them (or is nagged enough :-)

Really liking the new features. One suggestion.

When you post your reply to a post it takes you to the top of the last page, i.e. the page with your reply. I've always wanted it to take me back to the message I'm replying to so I don't lose my place in the thread.
