Request for comments: new feature
Posted on 10/13/2001 3:17:06 AM PDT by John Robinson
I've been tinkering with a new way to do self-search. It will display the comments as if they were in a thread, but only displays those comments addressed to you or posted by you.
Have a look at it here:
Last 100 posts involving you -- in reverse chronological order, like latest posts
New posts to you (since last time you checked) -- in forward chronological order, like a normal thread
I think this should be listed in forward chrono order, but that might make browsing your self-search awkward.

Always thought this was the most user-friendly of forums, but you've topped yourself! Thanks.
I'm getting you a puppy for Christmas.

I sure like the ability to set the clock to my time zone. Any way to turn the clock back 20 or 30 years? I would re-register simply as Eagle!

Maybe "topic" was the wrong word. What I really meant was by thread.

Oh gosh no! Our puppy had puppies... twice... before we put an end to that. Twelve little wiener dogs pooping all over the house! Kept the best from each litter. Dogs we don't need. :-)
Caffeine on the other hand...... :-)

Ohh. Now that would be nice. And quite possibly doable. I'll forget, so remind me later. :-)

How do you get to 'your Profile'?? How do you get to 'another's Profile'??

You never cease to amaze. Thanks.

Wildcards are like that. IE 6 doesn't like to contain tables within margins, but I can live with that.

Count me as one who likes the new format... you've done an awesome job with this site and we really do appreciate all the hard work it takes to keep it running smoothly on a daily basis. Thanks to you and your Dad, God bless and keep you and yours!
To: John Robinson
Will do, thanks.

Click on your name in the forum--it's a quick way to get to your profile. From there you'll find the answer to your second question.

Not a problem (though John beat me and with a better answer :-)

What browser are you using? I'm using MSIE 5.00.2314.1003.

Nice...........very nice. The speed difference is amazing.

"all" would seem to be most attractive to posters who come late to the party, and tend to be talking primarily to themselves.
But it might be best to restrict it to the poster of the original article in order to limit abuse. And possibly to posters who have been registered as long as me! (LOL)

Time to take self-search 3.0 live. I can't find any bugs that are inherent just to self-search.
To: John Robinson
I really like it. It is really friction free and makes using the site faster and easier, thusly, we have more fun.
To: John Robinson
The new self-search is wonderful. Thank you.
To: John Robinson
I don't like the "all" feature.

To: John Robinson; all
Comments? I think it's great for those who have a regular ping list and use it sensibly. I think it's going to be abused, and we're going to open our self-search every day and see posts from people we've never heard of to threads we can't imagine visiting on our own.
Here's an example - I THINK the "ALL" must cover every registered Freeper, because I had just now a message "to" me, and the post was addressed only specifically to a couple of people and "All". I'd like to know how many people are going to get this ping!
