Has anyone else had or heard of similar incidents? What do you make of it? What do you make of the FBI's response?

Arm yourself with a pocket camera at all times. When you see suspicious people, take lots of photos.

Find out who his boss is and call him. And if he's not interested go to the next guy until you find somebody who takes you seriously.

If they are getting a lot of it, then I would hope they are on the case. They did just issue that public warning, after all. Maybe they don't want to give too much away, in order to not inform the terrorists what they know.

"What do you make of the FBI's response?"
To those of us who know the FBI, it is disappointing but true that they have a large percent of agents who are just plain lazy. The others however are great investigators who always ask the right follow-up questions and are not too lazy to file a report so their colleagues can benefit from what they learn.

There are so many wacky things going on now, I'm sure it is extremely difficult for the FBI to keep up with every report. Perhaps the FBI checked you out to find out if you're credible. And if you are credible I can really understand your frustration in such a lack luster response from them.

A: the FBI sucks.
B: Put it in writing - post it to the tip website.
C: Contact local police, too.

I don't know about you, but if I worked in a sensitive facility that was a potential terrorist target and had three Middle Eastern-looking guys come in looking to take pictures, I'd have them take the cameras apart and lick every component before putting them back together.
Then I'd shove the cameras up their @sses.
Sideways.
With the largest zoom lenses attached.

Sounds like the FBI is the same as it ever was.

I live in the DC Metro area, and last Tuesday, a listener of WMAL Radio called in and stated last weekend, he encountered 2 men that looked like they were of middle eastern descent, video taping the interior of a local Costco store and gas station. When the management of the store encounetered the men, they became very belligerent, and would not leave. Finally, they left, the manager did get their license plate numbers. The witness/caller did report this incident to the FBI.

I've seen these two arab guys videotaping Rockefeller center and St. Patricks in New York. A friend of mine saw them on Madison avenue. I reported it to the FBI, but I really thought it was nothing. Somebody e-mail Drudge...

Odd response. I made a report to the FBI concerning something I saw on the internet a few weeks ago. I got right through to an investigating agent, who took my information and I sent a report by fax. I was satisfied my information was accepted appropriately.

Be-baw,
CALL BACK AND TALK TO ANOTHER AGENT. Keep doing it until you find one who seems to have a brain. That's my serious suggestion. Your boss obviously has not a clue, which is not unusual. It's been my experience that people in general just aren't getting it. When the anthrax started showing up, I called my doctor and asked if he'd prescribe me some Cipro to have on hand just in case. He refused. (Nurse told me he said no and she had no idea why.) My wife called her doctor and talked to his nurse, who laughed and said, "well I thought I'd heard it ALL until now but this takes the cake!" Luckily, when she asked the doctor he didn't react in a similar fashion and did call in the script.
My point is that you'll find that the vast majority of people still have their heads buried deeply in the sand. Remember, these are the same people who elected Bill Clinton twice and almost elected Al Gore.

Expect a visit from the FBI to investigate you for racial profiling.

Go to the FBI's "tips" page and write a "diary" type description giving as many facts (as opposed to "what-I-thinks") and descriptions as you can remember.
btw: What does a "swarthy" man look like

You should contact your local police or county sheriff and relay the information to them. Maybe they have received similar reports.
We all need to "keep watch" and not get lax.

BEWARE OF SWARTHY MEN CARRYING CAMERAS Wouldn't that place 99% of the nation's porno movie directors under suspicion?

The gentleman I spoke with would not give me his name. This gentleman's supervisor needs to know that he would not give his name and that he showed no interest in what you were reporting. And what is the matter with your supervisor, BeBaw? It appears that he didn't show the appropriate concern for this incident.

I was looking at some small digital cameras the other day that would serve this purpose. The Casio wrist camera was cool, but had poor image quality.
Does anyone here have any suggestions on -very- small digital cameras, like "Minox-size" or smaller?
