You might be right, but the animals would have to have it around. My understanding (and I'm not a vet and I don't practice in rural America) is that most US farmers would not be exposed to this.

Inhalational anthrax is called Woolsorter's Disease because the British livestock handlers would pick up this germ from the wool.

A few years ago I attempted to locate a stockpile of the Anthrax Vaccine (when Clinton kept shooting his mouth off about this threat with NO PLANS in place to address it).

I couldn't get it. The company refused to release it to me because of the priority for the Gulf. Oh well. I see the need to protect the military first, but my calls to local politicians went unresponded. Now, just like missile defense, we're all sitting ducks.

Stupid isn't it? We could have immunized these people years ago. But, the US has only ONE SUPPLIER of vaccine and rumor has it that the FDA SHUT DOWN the vaccine supplier last year (because they claimed the production line wasn't up to their newest standard (passed in 1999?)) Beats me what the technical specs are ... but the suits closed down the line last year.

So DOD had to slow down immunization of US armed forces (because the stockpile was so low).

As you can tell, I tend to blame Clinton for alot.

I don't understand how anthrax can't be communicable. Bear with my logic, but say you have the spores or bacteria in your nasal passages and you sneeze. If the bacteria or spores are dislodged and sprayed by your sneeze are they no longer communicable because they have been in your nasal passage for hours/days? Do the spores become bacteria immediately upon inhalation and are at that point only deadly to host? The nasal swab on mailroom worker revealed anthrax "spores". This was some time after exposure. The spores had not yet evolved into the bacteria.

Anyway, two cases in the past week or two, both in the vicinity of the terrorists -- terrorists who exhibited an interest in cropdusters.

There is only ONE case of Anthrax, another where a person was exposed (no symptoms, though he's under observation...). If we're going to panic needlessly, let's panic needlessly while getting our facts straight. ;-)

Medical Offices send such kits to their local lab (and it is the responsibility of that lab office to pass it to the appropriate testing facility).

County would likely be called because it's probable (though I can not say for certain) that gov't labs are the best at diagnosing this germ.

Do you know about transmission by ingestion of infected animals? Now that I asked it, throw in the other likely pathogens. It would seem useful information.

Bingo! There are now 2 and perhaps 3 cases in less than a week. Going beyond 'normal' occurances.

Ahem... may I point out that, if I read this article correctly, there are perhaps four cases... note mention of another possible down in Florida...

You may not have wanted that vaccine. My understanding is that it contained a powerful adjuvant: Squalene. That adjuvant is a prime candidate for what might have produced the symptoms associated with Gulf War Syndrome. My brother, an MD/PhD viral immunologist at Case/Western, says that the Squalene theory is a likely candidate explanation, given the range of symptoms presented.
