Elsewhere, a state official in Virginia confirmed that health officials there were monitoring a possible case of anthrax at a northern Virginia hospital.
Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Va., contacted the state health department with a possible anthrax diagnosis, "one of several possible diagnoses" for the victim, whose name was not released, said M. Boyd Marcus, Gov. Jim Gilmore's chief of staff. He said a germ culture from the victim was transported to a state laboratory in Richmond on Monday evening and would take at least 24 hours to analyze.
The state government was told that the Virginia victim had either been an employee of or a contractor for The Sun, Marcus said. He had no details, and he said it wasn't known whether the victim had been in Florida of late or had had direct contact with Blanco or Stevens.
Bingo! There are now 2 and perhaps 3 cases in less than a week. Going beyond 'normal' occurances. These guys are cunning. Had they used a crop duster and there been mass exposure and mass deaths by a WMD, I doubt any nation would have batted an eye if we sent them a nuke. But, by exposing a few people and hoping it spreads in a more slow manner, they will have left enough doubt that some nations may balk at any nuke attempt.
Just as there is a tremendous trail that eventually leads back to bin Laden for the WTC attacks, so too will the anthrax. Making it hard to say bin Laden did it for sure, no fingerprints again, so to speak. And just enough uncertainty for Islamic nations to say 'prove it', once again.
Of course not. But we have to see the threat for what it is: very, very real.
I haven't seen much in the way of people wetting themselves, and I don't consider concern -- even grave concern -- to be the least bit fatalistic. We're sharing information, thoughts, fears and opinions about what's happening to our country. That's why we're here. The people who've lost their grip and determination are the ones who've grown bored of the crisis and just don't give a damn anymore -- they're the ones you need to worry about.
That's why the local doctors in Palm Beach need to be the first responders (and NOT cramming hundreds into a gov't public health facility).

You can read about Anthrax from CDC here: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/diseaseinfo/anthrax_g.htm
Lastly, If you were sitting on the HMO panel for California, why haven't you done more to correct the CLEAR CUT security problems involved with capitated contracting????? eom for tonight.
As I might say to Maha Rushie: Ditto, sir.
Oh, you're a real piece of work alright.
Several types, yeah. The one we're talking about is pulmonary anthrax/inhalation anthrax. 18 cases in past century. Oops, that's 20 now. Or is it 21? So hard to keep up with the numbers.
Anyway, two cases in the past week or two, both in the vicinity of the terrorists -- terrorists who exhibited an interest in cropdusters.
So if you get skin anthrax, then by all means don't sweat it, it won't kill you. But if someone gets pulmonary anthrax, and takes your advice, and dies I hope the spouse/children/parents sue you for every last penny you've got.
And if you think you're protected by some cloak of anonymity, guess again. Your personal information is just two subpoenas away. One to FR to hand over the IP information and timestamp, and another to your ISP to hand over your personal information. Oh, yeah, it happens. Often.
"Don't let a terrorist psyop confuse you."
How can I, when I'm busy countering a "don't-panic" psyop?
(The 'gee, thanks, doc!' atta-boys were starting to seem too much like outtakes from Invasion of the Body Snatchers.)
I was thinking more along the lines of the *whote powdery substance* they've been talking about. If you get it on your hands and then go for your nose, you are halfway there. THAT is what is scarey, because for most people, it is such a common thing to do. Maybe that is why they found the spores in one guy's nostrils, but it hadn't reached his lungs yet. There is a certain amount of natural protection in the nose. If he were more hairy than is usual, it could very well have saved his life because he most likely did most of his breathing through his mouth.
As I said, I know this sounds gross, but you do have natural filters all over the place.
Just curious.
I'll bet that is why we're hearing comments on CNN/etc. about Iraq being a potential target. Maybe the letter to the UN Security Council was to set up action in the near future????
For some reason, I'm thinking about Burger King... "Have it yourrr wayyy"
Wow, you're amazing.
I can see you now, at the base of the burning WTC buildings, bodies falling to the ground, reminding us that "There's no reason to panic, folks. Air travel is safer than walking across the street, and tall office buildings are built for safety from the ground up!"
Who TF is even thinking about skin infections???
No one, that's who.
Except for you.
You're really gonna have to work a bit harder at reframing the discussion. I mean, hell, you've only been on FR for a few hours, and you're already sticking out like a sore thumb.
You, my friend, have what was known in the '60s as "cop shoes". "Narcs" would grow long hair, put on flower shirts, bell-bottom pants, and try to mingle with the "freaks".
Only thing is, they forgot to take off their department-issue oxfords.
Oops.
Yeah, "the most common forms of anthrax come from skin exposure", so why are we even discussing pulmonary anthrax?
Oh, because that's what people are coming down with. See how easy it is to forget?
Back to spin-control 101 for you, "Doctor".
