Andrew Sullivan put an excerpt of this incomprehensible column on his site with the title of "Poseur Alert." Even for Rolling Stone magazine, this column reaches new lows in meandering and self-absorption.

Bad, very bad. I hesitate to call it writing; maybe the best word is "spew".

I know the profanity was part of the article, but I still object to its presence. Just another reason to keep teens away from this forum, which is too bad.
An article like this is the logical result of living a meaningless, pleasure-driven life for decades.

"People are reading," Henry said hopefully. When I asked what they were reading, he said, "Nostradamus, and books about germs." Myself, I wanted to buy every book in the store and stack them into a windowless castle for myself, I wanted to stroke their papery bodies, I wanted, a little, to burn the store down. Language is metaphysics, and I hate metaphysics today. I hate the religious and philosophical lies which estrange me from the immediate life in favor of lost or imaginary kingdoms and gardens, in favor of paradisiacal or hellish afterlives, all lies. Today I want to eat and fuck.Does this get the award for worst opinion column writing for 2001?

I sent Rolling Stone a nasty "Cancel My Subscription" letter a few days after the attacks. After 8-9 years of putting up with their hate, (it was a free magazine!) I told them to stuff it. (Link to letter) http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3ba3b25f78ff.htm
So what do they do? They send me TWO issues of their 9/11 tribute!
But they expose their stupidity and anti-American ignorance by putting a flag on the cover with 51 stars!!! They are such stark-raving-mad stupid liberals that they don't even know how many stars are on the American flag!!!

This is a woman but not a normal one. I'm so glad I never met this entity. What a waste of oxygen.

I have my degree in English Literature.
I have had a great education.
I am a terrible writer.
So is she.

But they expose their stupidity and anti-American ignorance by putting a flag on the cover with 51 stars!!! They are probably making a political statement about DC statehood.

I used to read P.J. O'Rourkes great work in ROLLING STONE- but since I care very little about crappy popular music (actually, I don't give the southern end of a Northbound rat about ANY of it) I never read the junk that surrounded his pieces. Looks like that was a good decision!
If there is some sort of "award" for the most wretched piece of writing about the atrocities of 9-11, I want to nominate this. (And I will NEVER buy anything written by this moron).
