A 53-year-old man died in an early morning house fire in southeast Houston today.
The man, whose name has not yet been released [I confirmed that this was, indeed, my FRiend, Herb Meadows, known to all of us on FRee Republic by his screen name, "CHIEF negotiator"] was found by Houston firefighters in a bathroom in the rear of his home in the 8000 block of Glencrest, after the house burned about 1:30 a.m.
Firefighters said the man's wife told them she was watching television in the home's living room when she heard a loud pop and her husband shouting from the back of the home.
The woman tried unsuccessfully to rescue her husband, firefighters said. She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation symptoms.
Firefighters said it appeared the man tried to get out of the burning home, but the heavy smoke entered the bathroom, where he collapsed.
Arson investigators are at the scene of the fire this morning looking for its cause.

beautiful logo. Semper Fi, Chief, whom I also remember from back when I first became a FReeper.
He was a very intelligent, patriotic and humorous man. We will miss him. Prayers for his family.
To: Taxman
I'm stunned! I was just reading his very enjoyable thread Sorry Marine...
Farewell my warrior brother and fellow FReeper.
I guess God needed someone with an extra sharp eye and nerves of steel.
To: Taxman
This is very sad. :-( Prayers sent to his family.

Who are we? Free Republic is a loosely organized group of grassroots Americans who support our Constitution and look for honesty, integrity and honor from those in government. Like millions of Americans, we are fed up with our out of control federal government. Therefore, we are working together to roll back decades of liberal/socialist public policy and eliminate the waste, fraud, abuse and corruption pervasive in Washington today.
It is not necessary for everyone to hold the same views to be members of Free Republic, however, many of us do share many of the following as common beliefs and goals:
- The preservation and complete restoration of our Constitution and Bill of Rights with special emphasis on the first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth and tenth amendments and, of course, our right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness -- free of government intervention.
- We call for the repeal of the 17th amendment, which will reverse the independence of the Senate and reestablish the Senate as a representative of the State governments, as intended by the Founding Fathers. This arrangement was intended to be a critical check against illegal federal expansion over the States, and the people residing in the various States, and will act to return the powers not granted to the federal government, as enumerated in the Constitution, to the states.
- We call for the repeal of the 16th amendment and to abolish the income tax and the IRS. Revenues to the federal government should come from excise taxes and tariffs.
- We call for the repeal of the Emergency and War Powers Acts, an end to all national emergencies and a ban on the unilateral creation of law by Presidential edict. We are also working for the repeal all laws created by unconstitutional and extraconstitutional devices, such as Executive Order or Presidential Directive.
- Repeal of the war and emergency powers acts and the various states of national emergencies will allow the abolishing of all unconstitutional federal law, agencies and departments. This will return us to a Federalist system of government and return many responsibilities to the States and personal rights to the citizens.
- A return to a strictly Constitutional form of federal government will automatically repeal and abolish all unconstitutional federal involvement in states issues such as: crime, health, education, welfare and the environment. The Tenth Amendment will again be in effect, which will bar all federal attempts at legislating social issues. This will also require that social programs such as Social Security, welfare and Medicare be repealed. So too, will most federal subsidies.
- We further call for the rescinding of all treaties and/or International Agreements which are not in perfect agreement with the federal governments Constitutionally mandated task of protecting the rights of the people.
- We believe that the United States should disassociate itself from the U.N. and that the U.N. should be forced to leave the United States. Furthermore, we demand that the federal government refrain from meddling in the business and squabbles of foreign nations, unless there is an imminent threat to the people of the United States.
- We also call for the strengthening of our military and defenses; the effective control over illegal immigration and smuggling; the paying down the national debt; and strict control over federal agencies like the CIA and the FBI.
- Jim Robinson
You'll notice that most of my links on the left deal with our abusive, intrusive, incomprehensible income tax system, and their Gestapo collection agents, the IRS.
A progressive/graduated income tax is the second plank in Karl Marx Communist Manifesto! So any sane thinking American citizen should wonder What was the original intent of the income tax? [see link]
As a result of my intensive study of various tax plans, I have determined that the only way to accomplish the original intent of our Founding Fathers is to abide by Article 1 Section 8 of our Constitution:
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"
A National Retail Sales Tax is an "excise" tax that is "uniform". There are two NRST bills before congress, HR2001 and HR2525. My preference is HR2525 that funds Social Security and Medicare from the FairTax revenue, rather than paychecks as HR2001 does.
In the fall of 1998, FReepers pigdog, Taxman and myself organized the FairTax FReeper Cyber Warriors to contact the media and Congress about this better method in which to tax ourselves. Our membership now totals over 500 concerned citizens! Americans for Fair Taxation support HR2525. Most of your questions about the FairTax are answered at Frequently Asked Questions and Research and Analysis.
Why would any politician demand that we continue to report our income to the Gestapo IRS - face penalties, interest, audits, liens, searches, seizures, garnishment of wages and even PRISON, when there is a better method to fund government?
If American citizens do not petition government about the major advantages of the FairTax, expect another 88 years of "tinkering with the taxcode".
If you are interested in becoming a FairTax FReeper Cyber Warrior, just send me a FReep-mail with your real email address with a note, "I want to be a Cyber Warrior". I will forward the list to pigdog who will send you the rules and regs, and a list of our lastest email "targets". We will not provide anyone a list of Cyber Warriors!
:-? Peace(pipe)

GOD bless you CHIEF and our prayers are with your loved ones.

My condolences to his wife and family...I will miss his posts. May the rest of us who feel as he did about fair taxation carry on his legacy to fruition.
If there is a family gift/remembrance fund, I will contribute, as his wife should get something back from all of his time spent on FR with all of us.
To: AppyPappy: Taxman
I didn't know him and that is surely my loss indeed.
To: Taxman
Rest in peace, Patriot. Someone may want to contact his 2nd Force Recon buddies.
To: Taxman, ScreamingFist, All
I posted a second thread because CHIEF negotiator was special to so many Freepers and many cannot get the longer threads to load. I wanted to give all Freepers the opportunity to offer their condolences on a thread. I also believe this deserves to remain in Breaking News.

There will be many on FR who will miss him - and his wonderful sense of humor - even many of those who so bitterly opposed him I was one of the people who had argued with the Chief (and you) on several occasions. I didn't bitterly oppose him , if fact I agreed with him on much that he advocated. We got bogged down in the details of things and rarely ended up agreeing on much. He was a fine poster and someone who truly wanted the best for his country. I will miss his commentary and his passion and his relentless advocation of what he believed was right.
Rest in Peace Chief.
