I remember the dawn of music video as it's own media...MTV and TBS' Night Tracks...

And Duran Duran's Simon Lebon's less than prophetic announcement that, "Duran Duran would do for video, what Pink Floyd had done for Stereo."

I was born in '69, so the '80s spanned that period of my life when I went from child to young adult. Far too many memories, raging hormones, bitter with the sweet to comment on here.

Great site...

DeLoreans are fine if you like Back to the Future, but if you want a great foreign car from the 1980's, go for the Porsche 928. For less than $4,000 today, you can get a 292 horsepower supercar in either stick or auto, with sunroof, 4 seats, phenomenal handling, a great exhaust note sound, and unique profile. Think Risky Business.

I used to spend every Friday with my best friend Jim watching Miami Vice. And when it came back on TNN recently, I still liked the show. SOme of the episode were bizarre and had somewhat marginal writing, but on the whole, it was a great, well-crafter show.

My fave music from the time was Rush. I played drums in HS and saw Rush a bunch of times and tried to be Neil. Maiden and Priest were good too.

Hey, although I'm a Brady Boomer, I wanted to take a peek at your thread.

Speaking of threads, I used to wear a stonewashed Guess? denim jacket, with whitewashed leather shoulder pads. Matching pants, too!

It's still in my closet, waiting for the right '80s party to break it out. If only I still had my white Don Johnson Capezios.

I used to tend bar at an after hours alternative club, called "One Step Beyond," in Santa Clara, CA.

While I worked there, I saw Fine Young Cannibals, The Beat Farmers, X, The Blasters, Gene Loves Jezebel, Chris Isaak, The Ramones, Iggy Pop, The Violent Femmes, Fiahbone, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sig Sig Sputnik, Feargull Sharkey and a bunch of others that escape me right now. The head security guy was Hillary Stench, formerly of Pearl Harbor and the Explosions.

Welcome to the House of Fun!

The 80's were so much fun. The Music. Here are my favorites. Van Halen with Sammy Hagar. RATT and the Scorpins. Foreigner. Def Leopard and George Strait.

Who can forget the dawn of cable TV with only 13 channels? I remember staying up late on Saturday nights to watch Night Tracks on TBS and Friday Night Videos on NBC after Late Night with David Letrerman. That show was great more that it is now and who could forget Johnny Carson.

Any of you have an Atari and a Commodore 64? I wish I would have kept mine to show my kids when they get older. And What about New Coke? I lived close to Mexico at that time so we would go across the bridge to get the Real thing. And that reminds me of old high school memories. The Drinking age was not an issue thanks to Mexico.

Most of all , who could forget Ronald Reagan? A man I always admirred the day he became President and I was 8. It was great to have a man like that in the White House and I am happy to see that my kids will see somebody like that now that GW Bush is President.

Like - Oh my god. I used to wear leg warmers. I had my hair cut like Pat Benetar at one time. Oh, and I wore a Def Leppard bandana around my neck for a school photo. Had the commodore 64 too (never could do the "flight simulator" thing but I played "Alice in wonderland" into the night.) All the different jeans - Calvin Klein, Chic, Jordache, Sassoon - polo shirts - parachute pants - Nikes were huge. We had our 15 year class reunion a bit ago - somebody told me that during high school I reminded them of the girl from "The Breakfast Club" - I said - "Molly Ringwald?" - They said - "No, the wierd one." Cool huh?

I could go on and on and I wil probably chime in again as I think of more stuff.

Sledge Hammer! (Trust me, I know what I'm doing.), Roxette, MacGyver, Buck Rogers. Wow.

They've already been mentioned, but I must reiterate the memories of Friday Night Videos. We'd be in the cabin up north and I'd drive them nuts staying up all hours to watch that.

I remember when the hostages were released from Iran. We had a tiny transistor radio in the school office, listening to the inauguration. The secretary got on the PA and you could hear the cheers from the gym/lunchroom.

When the Challenger blew up, I was supposed to go to the doctor's that afteroon. It was my birthday, too. We sat in the waiting room just watching the TV, even after they had called me back into exam.

And if he had not been living in the TENT next to his HQ he would not be around anymore. I am glad Bush jr. has had some Reagan training.
