I read them all regularly, except Ms. Rabinowicz (somehow I've missed her, though the name sounds familiar). Find her in the Wall Street Journal. (www.opinionjournal.com)

Where are the Muslim religious scholars denouncing these acts? Who is in charge of the mosque at Mecca? Couldn't he issue a statement denouncing such teachings? All the rational leaders of Islam should produce a joint statement pointing out that anyone teaching such doctrine is wrong...What exactly is the hierarchy of the Muslim Church? Or do they even have a one?

Buckley is being misquoted from an interview last year. He was asked what political view he would hold to the most if he were a 19 year old college student today. His answer to that was "Socialist". It was a statement about the educational system and the University system today, in particular the Ivy League. His conservatism has been consistant and well documented.

Johnson's article addresses how to deal with terrorists. My question is what if it is the religious faith itself that is the problem. Surely you don't think the U.S. should conquer every Muslim country.

The best way to end war and ensure peace is to kill the enemy.

I'm not telling Saudi Arabia how to punish criminals but the west defines barbarism and savagery so differently, how can we expect a "coalition" when we can't even agree on the basic tenets of civilized behavior?
Crucifixion, stoning, drawing and quartering, burning at the stake, evisceration and dismemberment are not just an "honest difference of opinion" in the treatment of criminals.

"Try Cal Thomas, Dorothy Rabinowicz, Walter Williams, etc. etc. etc."But ignore Buckley when he's RIGHT?
Not me!

Buckley puts things tactfully well doesn't he? He could have pointed out more the fact that of the origins of the word "Jihad". Is "Jihad" the not-so-peaceful element of a religion? etc.

What exactly is the hierarchy of the Muslim Church? Or do they even have a one? From Living World History by Wallbank and Schrier(circa 1969--my 10th grade text book):
Islam has no organized priesthood, nor have churches or church services comparable to Christian services or centers of worship. However, temples, or mosques, exist for prayers, and mullahs, or learned teachers, are available to explain regious doctrine.

He [Cassius Clay] became a Black Muslim, which is a pseudo-religion for unbright neurotics who feel the need to hate all white people. -- WFB
For the record, here he was describing the "Nation of Islam", a cult created by Elijah Mohammed (I don't know what his original name was) and currently headed by Louis Farrakhan(sp?). It is very popular in prisons because conversion prevents the prisoner from having to go to court on Fridays.
It claims to be a portion of Islam, but it's even outside of the realm of real Islam. They have beliefs involving space aliens and the "mother wheel". And it is characterized by visceral hatred toward whites.

Thank you for the ping. You draw notice to some of the best articles.

I agree. It is time for us to confront Islam clerics and ask a simple question; are the 9/11 attacks in line with Muslim teachings? If they say no, [which they will to avoid trouble] then demand that they publicly announce this to their followers and denounce the terrorists as murderers. This will separate the terrorists from the crowd, or flush out the extremist clerics, who are probably the real troublemakers here. Either way, it is high time to ask these questions and demand answers.

btw, I've been in a cult and feel somewhat qualified to know the signs: isolation, deprivation, contradictoy teachings, having others tell you what "God" says you should do, having leaders who set themselves up as virtual gods....Once under the spell of the great deceiver a person is blind to truth, reason, and even simple logic.
Having grown up as a baptist, I can understand all of those warning signs you pointed out.

For those who don't know: Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi alleged that Islam is a religion that does not respect human rights, pluralism, tolerance and freedom of religion and that the Western civilization is superior to Islam.
