[history]
Even by her usual incendiary standards, Ann Coulter's response to the terrorist attacks was something of a jaw-dropper.
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," the conservative commentator declared in her column on National Review Online.
Those words created an uproar at the Web site, which refused to run a follow-up piece in which Coulter singled out what she called "swarthy males." She promptly began bad-mouthing National Review, which responded by axing her as a contributing editor.

She said yesterday that National Review Editor Rich Lowry and his deputies "are just girly-boys

Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But, names will never harm me!!!!!!!!
So tired of folks carrying their feelings on their shoulders, hurt my feeling and I will sue you is bullcorn!
To: Doctor Stochastic
As idiotic as her column was, firing seems extreme. Especially under the circumstances.Something tells me I wouldn't have a job tomorrow either if I went on national television tonight and called my bosses "spineless girly-boys."

I will conceed that NR's drug legalization (spurred on mostly by Buckley) is not in line with conservative orthodoxy but they take a Libertarian slant to the problem not a Liberal approach. Aside from the drug issue, what other issues would Freepers consider NR to be moderate or "soft" about?
To: JeanS
she can do much better than nr.

Hey, for some of us that are Christians, the rapture is nonsense. But then again, I don't send my paycheck into the preacher with the Kentucky Fried hairdo on TV with the 1-900 number either.

I think they would."I feel sorry for you. Really. You don't get it, but then again, you don't want to.
To: Lancey Howard
I don't have anything against Ann (well, I wish I had her against me..... nevermind), but you have to admit that her comment about forcing all of the arabs to convert to christianity was over the top.

"If National Review has no spine, they are not my allies," Coulter said yesterday. I wholeheartedly concur.

As much as I would like to see these evil two legged cockroaches crushed it would be wise to consider they own the oil we are going to need to kill them with. Also consider this: the Muslim population is around one billion, with their sheer numbers alone we might even lose if our goal is utter eradication.
Christianity used to be a pretty militant religion but it has mellowed through the centuries by splitting among so many fractures that the firm hand of reason now restrains it. That is the cure to the Moslem infection: make its peoples free to practice any version they want and it will fracture on its own.

National review was still utterly spineless for summarily firing her.

"After 45 years, I'm done with NR." After many years, I'm giving that consideration myself. Can I have your subscriptions then?
To: damian5

"How easy it would be to "convert" these folks!!"Well, we could start by telling them that since polygamy is taboo in Christianity, they wouldn't have to become suicide bombers just to have a social life.
Make that... "social afterlife."
To: BoomerBob
NR pretty well ignored Second Amendment issues throughout Bill Buckley's period of active leadership.

You can't put those countries BACK to the Dark Ages - they never left. I don't doubt that. I was referring to us. If we suggest taking over other countries and forcing them to convert...it returns US to the dark ages.
It feeds the fires that oppose us. Point taken though.
