The Heart Of This Nation Is Set To Fight!

I've been, gladly, out of the loop for a week. I went on my planned vacation. I did feel "different" about it, but I did it anyway. I needed to get away and see the part of this country that I own, a part I've never seen before. We went to a cabin of friends in northern Wisconsin. On a pure, clean, and wonderful fishing lake...ah, yes..my weakness...beauty, and fishing.

We stopped to shop, as my lovely lady likes that. I'll never balk at that because she goes fishing with me, and she either puts on a good act, or she really likes it. We were driving through some beautiful land, talking to beautiful people. As we looked around I saw, Old Glory everywhere. I saw the flag displayed in mail boxes, on fence poles, on Stop signs in the middle of no where. We went throught a little town named Spooner Wisconsin. The place was awash with American flags.

We were having a humble, but ample dinner one night at the local pub in our nearest village. I was smoking my pipe and a local lady complemented by blend. They were having a wonderful time at the bar, shouting, and debating, and they invited us up from the dining room to join them. My lady approved, and we moved to the bar.

Let me set the place for you. This is a "lodge" in the middle of nowhere, as you might think, but it's somewhere to the people that live there. It's home to the good people that live there, the lodge was built in 1923. There are dead trophys hanging on the walls, with old pictures. The place goes back three generations. There's a 40 pound Muskie mounted above the bar that nobody bothered to put his name on, we'll never know why.

We stopped to refresh ourselves, and we got an education. The people of this heartland are angry as hell. They thought that they could trust the government to protect them, at least. These people are just as mad as hell. They should be, but I can't blame them for even their vote. They were just too busy feeding a billion people and believing the propaganda of the democratric party. The game has changed now, these lovely patriots are awake and ready to serve.

As I talked that evening in that lodge, to those people, I almost though I could run for office. I had a wonderful time. The people of this HeartLand are patriots, and they are conservative. I'm happy to report that.

We went to their place in a brand new Chevy Blazer. We needed a new truck, so...we got one.

Um, except for the EXTRAORDINARILY CONDESCENDING tone of the piece, I might have enjoyed the patriotism. News flash for you: People in Spooner, Wisc., are also Americans, although they might not be as attuned as you to the rarified air. Trust me, sir, you need to tone down your royalty a bit ... And this, I assure you, is coming from a VERY RARIFIED individual.

I read your reply several times. I was a little hurt that you though I was CONDECENDING. Let me assure you that I am not condecening. I love the people in: Lubbock, Tx, Muleshoe, Tx, Idalou,Tx, Granite,NM, Battle Lake MN, Marion, IN. St. Paul MN, Barron WS, Clitheral, MN, Tuccucarri,NM All the small towns that have made me the man I stand to be.

The little places that have, and hold the heart, of America carry the love and the fate of this country. I wonder how you could have gotten the impression that I am some kind of elitist?

I liked your little essay (except for the part about fishing- yuck!). I am heartened by what's going on now, but fear the old attitudes will kick back in once things settle down. Remember post Gulf War, everyone said no one would be silly enough to run against GHWB with his high approval ratings. Well, guess what - SOMEONE did - and won.

The Unions and the McAuliffe's of the world will go back to work, and with the help of the media, will return to demonizing Conservatives of every stripe.

While we're being patriotic, perhaps each Freeper should assume responsibility to point out to these people how they have been let down by the MEDIA - not reporting all these things that they knew about. They NOW say they were aware, but education and racial profiling were more important.

BTW, what was the take on what people actually wanted to do in response? My own little poll shows everyone wants the 'full Wolowitz', not the 'half Powell'.

Well, didn't mean to cause you pain. Sorry. It's just lines like this: "The people of this HeartLand are patriots." ... Very nice ... but they are not some amorphous "the people" ... "they" are US, all of us, you and me! It sounded a bit like you were de Touqueville discovering America ... guess what: some of those folks in the restaurant are as erudite as you and me. I think I know what you meant, but those of us who have brains, earning power and contacts, who choose to live in America's rurals, are getting a touch tired of condescension from folks who haven't yet figured out the rurals are THE place to live. No harm meant, tho! Glad you enjoyed the trip, and the folks ...

I think he was just trying to say that the majority of the people felt that Bush was speaking to them the other night, not the jerkoff Sunday patriots on tv from Hollywood...or Michael Isakoff or Eleanor Rodham Clift.

"The people of this heartland are angry as hell.

You got it and I'm one of `em.

I want to see the sands of the middle east running in a river of terrorist blood. I hope the Lord will forgive my anger, but I want us to take our pound of flesh, and then some.

I am glad to see that Americans are once again united.
Oh, we won't agree on every aspect, but we agree that there is much evil in the world and it must be destroyed.
I Trully Believe that when the truth comes out (and it will) about how the Rapist with his administration and his cowardance, caused a lot of this,ie: some of his "Wag the Dog" (bombing the aspirin factory). I believe that when the majority of Americans realize this, The Rapist will not be able to show his ugly face anywhere.
I still beleive he will get his just rewards, and it won't be pretty.

I wrote the following in response to a remark from Mudboy Slim, and I think it applies here:

will forever live in my heart as the most horrific of my lifetime--I hope--but the response of the Sheeple has instilled in me a renewed hope

Exactly, neighbor- exactly.

America is a good country at heart... the "real" America is not the glitterati & literati you see on TV, but the regular, ordinary people- like all those rescue workers in NYC, working until they dropped.

It's not bubba and his legions of worshippers, or Streisand or Redford, or whoever is the ( pardon! ) whore de jour the media tells us we are supposed to emulate this week, but rather normal Americans going about their work and lives.

That is what makes America great, and as long as they are good & strong, America will be too. I had greatly feared the last 8 years Unpleasantness had corrupted them irredeemably, but I think perhaps that is not so....

The blood runs true,
the Iron in America's heart is still strong...
