I have fired both. They are both exellent weapons. Both are used by police and the military Both are 9mm so no shortage of ammo. I own a Glock 17 so I am partial to Glocks.
Get a Glock :)

80% of law enforcement officers in U.S. carry Glocks, that should tell you something. I carry a Glock 22C. Glocks are dependable, easy to care for, accurate, and will last three life times.

Your local sheriffs dept. carries Glocks FWIW.

I'm going to get flamed for saying this, but I don't like the glock trigger safety setup. ANYTHING that pushes on the trigger will fire it, branch, key, pen, holster, etc..
Beretta 92FS is good. I like something more powerful than a 9mm, so I got a
H&K USP Compact .357 SIG. The .357 SIG round is kinda, a 9mm bullet in a .40 case.

Head for the range and rent as many pistols as you can, and try them out to see what you like.

I just bought myself a new Glock 27 yesterday. I had absolutely no intention of acquiring another weapon just yet, but I accompanied my boyfriend to the gun shop, because he had bought a new shotgun and needed to have it transferred from the dealer across the state to the local dealer.
They had exactly one Glock 27 (40 cal.) available, and it's exactly what I've been wanting. I made the mistake of asking to look at it, and as soon as I had my hands on it I knew I couldn't walk out of the store without it.
Here in Florida, if you have CCW there's no waiting period. So I came home with my shiny new Glock in hand. Today we went out to where we have our range set up and blasted away like Cuban revolutionaries. It was great!!!!!
P.S. My previous carry gun was a Beretta .32 Tomcat. The frame has cracked in 3 places and it is even now on its way to Beretta, where hopefully they will just replace the thing.

Both are fine weapons. No way to go wrong with either. The Beretta has a three-year warranty, while the Glock holds only a one-year. Something to think about. The Beretta also holds the lead in accuracy over the Glock.

I am partial to the Glock (the Beretta 92 was the first gun I ever bought). Have you considered the Glock 19? If I were limited to one handgun for plinking, competition, home defense, and concealed carry, the G19 would be the one.

Some people dislike the ergonomics and trigger of the Glock (I don't care for either myself), while others find the grip and decocker/safety of the Beretta to be uncomfortable or annoying.
I like the Beretta (own an Elite II), but I've fired both and made the decision on which was better for ME, not what was better for someone else with a brand preference. Both are fine firearms. You will not go wrong with either.

Got it down to a Glock 17 or a Beretta 92. I've got a Glock 17, 19, and the Beretta 92 they are all great. I also have the Glock 23 in .40, and the Glock 21 in .45 ACP.
I guess I have to say I probably like the Glock a bit more.

I had the same two choices when I was shopping (when I thought Clinton was going to cancel the 2nd amendment and I better hurry up). The problem was that the semi's need care and cleaning due to the moving parts. The salesmen told me if it was going to be in a drawer most of it's life(it was and has been) then just get a revolver rather than a sexy gun. Which I did. It is still unopened (an emotional purchase at the time).

My first gun was a Beretta 92FS 9 mm (done in black; very elegant; popularized by Mel Gibson in LETHAL WEAPON and Bruce Willis in DIE HARD) that I bought during the Rodney King riots in Lost Angeles while in Grad School (15 rounds + 1 chambered). This is still my home protection device.
I now live in Virginia and went through the Concealed Carry classes offered at the local gun range (finger printing, etc., etc.). My concealed carry weapon is a Beretta 84F (9 mm Short or .380; 13 rounds + 1 chambered) done in Nickel with a Walnut handel. VERY pretty! I have a "small-of-the-back" holster.
My major advice is:
1) Go to a gun show or a shop and HANDLE a lot of guns......it has to feel good in YOUR hands and should not be too big OR small for your grip. Also, a womans hands are not the same size as a man's......will there be two of you using it?
2) Wheelie vs. Semiauto- Wheellies ARE more reliable....less moving parts and no worry of jamming at the crucial moment. Semi-autos give more firepower but are more complicated to the newbie.
3) Buy a QUALITY gun. You don't want a jam or a mechanical breakdown at the wrong time!!!!!!!
Remember....your life, your family's lives AND the idiot that came-crawling-through-your-basement-window life depends on it.

Don't know much about the Beretta, but I have a Glock 17 and it's great. Simple, unbreakable, absolutely reliable.
