Chechen rebel president names negotiator for talks with Russia
MOSCOW, Sept 25 (AFP) - Chechen separatist president Aslan Maskhadov has appointed a negotiator for talks with Russia, saying there were "real chances" for peace following Russian President Vladimir Putin's offer on Monday, his spokesman told AFP by telephone Tuesday.
"I think that after the Russian president's new offer, there are real chances to start negotiations as soon as military action ends and to peacefully settle contradictions accumulated (between the Russian and Chechen peoples) for centuries," the spokesman quoted Maskhadov as saying.
On Monday, Putin called on Chechen separatists to contact his envoy in southern Russia and discuss the modalities of a rebel surrender, giving them three days.
The Russian president did not use the word "negotiations" or suggest a pullout of Russian troops from Chechnya.
Maskhadov said he appointed the deputy head of the Chechen separatist government, Akhmad Zakayev, to carry out negotiations with Putin's envoy, Viktor Kazantsev.
No Kremlin official could be reached immediately for reaction.
He's worked in a history of World War I and easily obtainable though obscure facts concerning the Balkans into a presence who seems legit.
Of course, I could just be basing my knowledge on a conversation I had with Maj. Biondich over Dolma and a nice bottle of Jalilabad at the New Anadolu (a favorite hang out in Baku) wherein we discussed Fusion's complicity in the murder of John Alvis.
Easily obtainable but obscure, sounds legit, but is complete B.S.
No,
"Dolma" are stuffed vine leaves,
"Jalalabad" [no "i"] is a city in Afghanistan,
and Le Chien Andalou was a well-known film by Bunuel.
But if you were sitting in any cafe in Baku, making a public spectacle of yourself while consuming alcoholic spirits [referred to as "Devil's P*ss" by all true followers of Mohammed], bending elbows with a military type with a Slavic surname, I seriously doubt you would have lived to be repeating the tale in this forum.
That's all as totally silly as it is transparent. Fusion doesn't make those kinds of errors. And as far as the "joke" goes, I have no idea who "John Alvis" may be [second cousin to Max Alvis, third baseman for 8 years with the Cleveland Indians, two-time All-Star?] and I don't really care. But you know who Peter Chappell is, and either I've missed something in an earlier post, or you're just angry with Fusion for making unconfirmed (and probably unconfirmable) allegations about the current edition of the Ustasa, while defaming the glorious past -- the sacred memory of Krunoslav Draganovic, captain, chief cook and bottle washer of the S.S. Rat Line.
Harriet Tubman he wasn't
Now I don't know what scares me more, Fusion (if he's for real and means it) or this ,which is from Stavka, and is apparently ment seriously. What do you think Hoplite?
Sawding is right.
It is not enough to deal with the terrorists you have to deal with the problem that created the insurgency movement in the first place, otherwise the terrorist keeps coming back.
Where Chechnya is concerned I feel in the end it will mean giving them there independence, it odes not mean Russia has to totally relinquish control, after all look at all the countries we in the West control indirectly through economic means.
Many people have stated that the best course forward is to eliminate the entire race after all both Stalin and Hitler new how to deal with those who dared to get in the way.
I guess it is easy to hate the Chechen's and Afghanistan people, rather like the Jews even 20 years ago, after all they are not like us, and they dont fight fair they carry out attar cities so it is fair for the other side to reply with atrocities.
I have heard that on this site many times, but how many on this site would let me say that where the Irish are concerned.
After all one way to solve the IRA would be the total elimination of the Irish Catholic population, and if you dont think they are in the same league where atrocities are concerned I can assure you they are. I still remember finding the kidnapped British soldier nailed to a kitchen table and tortured to death.
Young soldiers were kidnapped while off duty tortured and killed.
And what about sending special operation groups to New York and Boston and blowing up the bars where IRA funds are collected.
I dont believe in any of those measures, I believe in fighting the terrorist but not making war on civilians, otherwise what makes me any different to an SS man or a member of the old NKVD.
Tony
The Russians will stay in Chechnya because the effort is worth them staying in Chechnya for both economic reasons and for peace of mind security reasons. Before this war the Chechens had de-facto independence and that did not stop the kidnappings, did it Tony?
The Russians own Chechnya now and they are going hunting and they are going to kill without restraint now. This is not chest beating on my part. I am not a Russian. I think my forecasts are accurate and I have some ability at it so what I wrote is a statement of what is and will be.
Are you sure you are not talking about yourself, Hoplite?
I dont know why I feel its wrong, after all I gave up believing in God ages ago.
What do you think we have crossed swords before.
I believe in a COIN op where while eliminating the terrorist threat you try to win over the host population by meeting those demands that can be met, and encouraging the host population to create a form of government or political party more friendly to you.
Whats your take, I know you dont hate Muslims but knowing as I do that the Russians and the mercenaries they are using are hardly any better than the terrorists when it comes to activity and that includes kidnapping, rape, torture and drug smugger ling, can you really support them
If there is no God then deep down anything goes if you are under the right banner, I guess thats what is the differance
Tony
Dolma would be eaten, and possibly accompanied with wine grown in the Jalilabad region of Azerbaijan, and you could get both at the New Anadolu restaurant in Baku. So if you were talking to the American Defense Attache about the murder of the resident director of the International Republican Institute in Azerbaijan, where better to do it, and why not enjoy some of the local cuisine while doing so?
Of course it's silly and transparent, just like Fusion's posts, but unless you start out skeptical and do some fact checking before you give Fusion or anybody else carte blanch on your credibility card, as so many here have done, then you'll just be tagging along with everybody else behind the piper.
Yeah, I'm angry with Fusion, and I'm angry with the F.R. community for putting up with his B.S. so willingly.
I was in an Indian restaurant yesterday, and noted the "We're an American business" signs posted on the windows. Kind of made me sad until I reflected on the progress we've made as a nation since the last time we were attacked. We're not going to round anybody up in the manner Stavka surmises - least not while I'm around.

Is there a difference? Dzerzhinsky's looking up at Chechnya from the burning inferno with what could almost be taken for a smile on his face.
From his own vantage point on a puffy cloud in American White Anglo-Saxon Protestant celestial afterlife, the countenance of A. Mitchell Palmer (the Attorney General during the "Red Scare" after WWI) bears a baleful but resolute stare.
Maybe there is something that distinguishes the two. Palmer rounded up any and all suspects and deported 249 (including Emma Goldman), to Russia, on a ship called the Buford. The Americans, generally, kept re-locating the Native Americans farther and farther west. (With apologies, in hindsight, to all those who died along the way, like the Cherokee.)
History can be absent-minded, or just looking in the wrong direction sometimes. It also often catches up to its mistakes. Let's hope the Russians do, too, without compromising their troops too badly in the present.
PS-- It was Tony *Robinson*. My mistake in earlier post.
I'm not 100% convinced either way, though. Some of that is, I suppose, the suspension of disbelief required to enjoy any good fiction and in this case, that expands to include layer of meaning on layer of meaning, wheels within wheels, the whole information/disinformation merry-go-round. Most of the readership here seems to give the act at least some credibility. For me, the psychological profile that's being projected fits the small details so I at least want to give the author points for that. For instance, Fusion's several times gone on at some length about American football, the '85 Chicago Bears, and Buddy Ryan's Flex defense. "Taunting", as it's now called when the referres flag it, was a big part of Jim McMahon's team--the whole in-your-face attitude, writ large on the headband for anyone to see. In the last decade that's also been the kind of thing that's gone on over the radio, between the front lines, in civil wars from Krajina to Kandahar. Some of that same swaggering bravado is obvious in Fusion's posts. The profile fits.
Not recognizing the names involved, I didn't follow where he's supposed to have tripped himself up, but I'll take your word for it there's a hole in the story. If you happen to catch him again, I'd appreciate a ping. It would be a relief to know that's it all just hot air, smoke and mirrors.

Indeed it is. BTW, I spent some time in Russia not so long ago, and the ordinary people just LOVE Americans... want to be like us. I was constantly mobbed in the villages by people wanting to meet me, to ask about American life, asking how to be a "capitalist" etc. The ordinary Russian PEOPLE are not our enemy!
Hmm...could this have something to do with this: The leader of Chechens -kistincev blew up himself in the toilet.
The forces of the Albanian narco-mafia on the move... Europe barfs.
