Scripture itself, through the Word of God, tells us of Jews (children of the tribes of Israel) being sealed (supernaturally protected by God) during the Great Tribulation.

Why would this revelation apply to the world today?

Rev 14 outlines a sequence that hasn't happened yet. The first angel in 6 desribes the time that the gospel is preached to all the nations. The second angel in 8 desribes the fall of babylon which is more fully detailed in Chap 18. The third angel in 9 desribes the time after the fall of Babylon and the time of the beast which is more fully discussed in chapter 16.

Keep in mind that a "city" in St. Johns time was a place surrounded by high walls where people came to trade each day. The WTC with two zip codes would look exactly like a city to St. John.

Yes, it is interesting, but "Babylon" is described as being on seven hills, a clear reference to Rome.
I think it is more likely that the terrorists knew these revelations (remember, they think Jesus is a prophet and they accept Torah and the Gospels as the first revealed word of God, with the Qu'ran or Koran being the final revealed word), and they twisted their plans to fit Biblical prophesy to sew mental confusion and hopelessness among us.
Therefore, while I will not let anyone put a chip in me, I am also not going to believe fighting these terrorists is hopeless. Nor am I going to believe that all of America is Babylon unless Jesus in person tells me so unequivocally. Nor am I going to buy that when the terrorists blew up the WTC they were messengers from God.
Forget that noise. I don't buy it.

St. John obviously was referring to Caesar Nero when he wrote the Apocalypse. After all, that's how his name adds up in the Hebrew alphabet. In the LATIN alphabet, it adds up to 616 -- hence the variant reading in some mss.
