However, they are the type that facilitate kite flying, not home flattening.

Weather Service Statement as of 5:48 PM EDT on September 24, 2001 ...Tornado Continuing To Move Northeast... At 548 PM Doppler radar showed the tornado just north of Laurel in extreme northern Prince Georges county...moving northeast at 30 mph into extreme southeast Howard County. This is a long-lived tornado with numerous sightings throughout the area along with numerous reports of damage. The Tornado Warning for the district and adjoining counties has expired. A Tornado Warning remains in effect for parts of Howard and Anne Arundel counties until 6 PM. In addition it appears this tornado may be a threat to portions of Baltimore County after 6 PM.

Weather Channel reports tornado touchdown in DC 1/2 hour ago, they are on the phone now with locals.
Three trailers destroyed 4 trailers heavily damaged, a few houses damaged, no severe injuries. Trailer park area the worst of it
I think that's all they said, hard to type and listen at the same time.
