Small tornado touched down right by Pentagon off I-395. The rotating storm is now heading NE up I-95 towards Laurel, MD.
I assume there will be details to follow.

How close to Columbia, MD. did it come? It was heading up I-95 in our general direction, but it weakened significantly between Greenbelt and Laurel/Savage. I haven't heard any reports of tornado damage north of Laurel.
Lots of wind and rain here, but no worse than the severe T-storms that we get at least twice a month between May and September. Rush hour must've been a mess (I work from home, so I don't know!), but overall the central MD/Baltimore area appears to have dodged a bullet.
The watches are up for a few hours yet, so we're still not completely out of the woods...

The '91 F4/F5 Tornado came within less than a mile of flightline full of B1's

Thanks to you inspector clouseau. I bet it really did screw up the traffic around there. I've been through it last year.

What does a tornado and a North Carolina divorce have in common?
To: freedom4ever
sorry, had to do something. There was a possible tornado last year, same place, between Greenbelt and Columbia. I think it was a bad storm, but reports said a tornado.

So has Osama bin Laden figured out a way to do a Simon bar Sinister kind of thing with weather?

Probably "God missed again... drat?" or something equally stupid. Actually they will say; "Why doesn't America get the message God (we) are sending?" or some such drivel.
One thing is for sure, the nation is not waiting for anymore of their moronic pronouncements with baited breath.

It is not the first time a tornado has struck the Washington, DC area after an attack. The night after Washington was burned to the ground in 1814, a severe thunderstorm accompanied by a tornado stuck the city.

Frankly, it wouldn't bother me if the whole of the socialistic mediocracy of U of MD blew down. Useless pit of divisive doctrines, policies. I do believe that Parris Glendenning is gunning for a cushy job on the Board of Regents there when he if finished raping the state. . . Boy, won't everything improve when Parris arrives. Yeech. And yes, sadly, I am an alumnus of their putrid system.

My daughter works in a building just across the Beltway from the Pentagon to the south west. She was not in the building when the plane hit. She was in the building this afternoon. They all ran into the stairwells after they saw the funnel in the air moving to the north. They have to a bunch of freaked out people.

Tornado Kills at Least 2 in Maryland
By Associated Press
September 24, 2001, 7:40 PM EDT COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- A tornado ripped through the University of Maryland on Monday, killing at least two people in a car and damaging numerous buildings.
The two victims died when their car overturned outside a campus dormitory, a fire official said. It was not immediately known if they were students.
Elsewhere on campus, four men were pulled from collapsed trailers belonging to the Maryland Fire Institute, said Prince George's County Fire and Rescue spokesman Mark Brady.
One man was trapped about 30 minutes, but none of those injuries appeared to be life threatening, Brady said.
Nearby, the roofs were blown off a Home Depot store and a church. Rescue crews were checking to see if people were under fallen debris.
The tornado touched down at about 5:20 p.m, as part of a storm system that stretched along the entire Interstate-95 corridor between Baltimore and Washington. (PROFILE (CO:Home Depot; TS:HD; IG:RTS;) )
