KABUL, Afghanistan -- Pakistan is to give the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan three days to hand over suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden or face U.S. military action.

The ultimatum comes as Pakistan makes eleventh-hour diplomatic efforts to prevent a military strike in the region.

I'll be glad when the kiddies are back in school tommorow during the day, so that the adults can discuss these things rationally. All these idiots screaming NUKEM! should march right down now and volunteer for military service. There will be NO use of nuclear weapons during this campaign, and you can take that to the bank. The President and his advisers are not wild-eyed madmen, like some of the lunatics who haunt these threads.

"We need bin Laden exterminated....not to court."

Let's compromise. Put him in a divorce/custody court.

Oops, that wouldn't be a compromise after all, would it.

You aren't very smart, are you? Have you taken the time to be concerned with nuclear fallout?

In spite of your name, I have always suspected you as a mole.

The "fallout" is a non-issue for anyone even remotely cognizant of nuclear weapons.

Nice try though, Mr. Progrssive.

>>What in hell would we do with him if they give him up???<<

Don't worry. That is just a political "nicety". Nobody really expects them to turn him over,or for him to be turned over alive if he IS turned over.

>> Military guys on thread,,if we get him can we summarily execute him? Is that legal under military rules?<<

No. Military members are SPECIFICALLY warned during training to not kill any prisoners, even wounded ones you can't treat or take with you. Not even when leaving behind live enemy soldiers will compromise your mission and put you and your team in danger of being killed. Anyone who does this will be arrested and treated as a war criminal. I'm not active duty military, but I have worked as a consultant to the US Army in the last two years, and have seen and heard these warnings myself.

While I don't agree with the idea of dropping nukes, I also understand that alot of people on this site are just trying to vent. That's one of the great things about this terrific site, we can vent without having to experience the ramifications. The key for Americans is to stay together, unified. We are more likely to win the war in the long struggle against terrorism if we stick together.

That's what I'm talking about. I don't want a select bomb or two dropped and then calm until the next crisis. Do I want WW3? NO!. If Pres. Bush feels he needs 3 days I'll stand behind him and wait. I just want him to get it right and finish this business.

So do we, but don't count on it.

Do I need to repeat my post #119 Slimeball?

Are you even aware that Pakistan created the Taliban?

Ignorance can be fixed; stupidity is forever...

Terminate with extreme prejudice...PERIOD...time for diplomacy is long past...just think if we had a diplomatic solution to Pearl Harbor - the Japanese would still have an army today.

Well surfer dude, I guess youre too young to know that the US Navy didnt attack the Japaneese the day after Pearl Harbor. And we certainly didnt attack the Germans who we also declared war on December 8.

The battle of the Coral Sea and then Midway didnt occur for many weeks or more and they were defensive in nature. We were still fighting losing battles in the Philliphines, and most of the pacific islands for several months. The US didnt start Island hopping until much later, to a large extent because most war resources were being sent to Europe. I believe the first bombing of Japan took place in '43.

If you recall the Gulf War, assuming your not a teenager dude, then you will remember that it took more than six months to build up our forces in the area, prepare battle plans, then two more months of airwar before the ground troops went in.

Last thing we want to do is insert troops into Afghanistan until we know where Osama Bin Laden and his network are located so we can inflict the most damage. We cant go around nuking Kabul just to make you feel better. That would turn the rest of the world against us and make us as bad as the terrorists. Have patience.

>>When we start going after the dead man walking, his minions all over the world are very likely to rise up and rain terror wherever they can. <<

Good. This means we can take them out now while we have worldwide support, rather than have to wait for them years down the road. I carry either a 44 Special or a 45ACP with me on a daily basis whereever I go,and any terrorist who pops up in front of me has just put his ass in what is now known of as a "high risk group". I'm not the only one, either. America is a country where a LOT of citizens walk around armed, and like me a lot of them are ex-military. This ain't France they are screwing with.

It won't be Kosovo with millions of Moslems lining up to peacefully play us for suckers. This will be war. There will be no long days of firing without death.

Do you have many classes in Military history and tactics in the fourth grade?

You're in no position to be calling someone else "not very smart". You obviously are a fool, or worse.

More people will be harmed by the long-term effects of the huge clouds of debris generated by the attack in New York than will be harmed by any fallout from any possible nuclear strikes.

>>Also, if the $$$ of these people is gone, they won't get any more followers.... no more people running around America with $5,000 in their pockets.....cold hard cash is buying this terrorism....<<

Yup,bin Laden is a KNOWN terrorist who is supposed to have a personal net worth of 300 MILLION US dollars. Seize and/or freeze all his bank accounts and property worldwide. With modern electronic banking, this shouldn't be any problem at all to accomplish.

And what if they DO hand him over!!??? This is not - it better not - be over! Putting this piece of excrement on trial would be a travesty. This is not a law enforcement issue anymore - it is war. If they hand Bin Laden over, we should shoot him on the spot and then being the attack against his followers and everyone else involved.

"That's not a solution. If we get Bin Laden - that's a start. We need the second in command. And the 3rd. And the 4th......."

It makes one wonder what is being said to the monsters who are in custody right now. I wish I were a fly on the wall. If I were the agents, I would be telling them, that as it stands, they will meet Allah soon, maybe in a military firing squad or some other form. Depending on the level of co-operation, there may be some mercy on them.
