Radio Address of the President to the Nation
whitehouse.gov ^ | Sept. 15, 2001 | Pres. George W. Bush

Posted on 09/15/2001 7:28:02 AM PDT by aristeides

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. This weekend I am engaged in extensive sessions with members of my National Security Council, as we plan a comprehensive assault on terrorism. This will be a different kind of conflict against a different kind of enemy.

This is a conflict without battlefields or beachheads, a conflict with opponents who believe they are invisible. Yet, they are mistaken. They will be exposed, and they will discover what others in the past have learned: Those who make war against the United States have chosen their own destruction. Victory against terrorism will not take place in a single battle, but in a series of decisive actions against terrorist organizations and those who harbor and support them.

We are planning a broad and sustained campaign to secure our country and eradicate the evil of terrorism. And we are determined to see this conflict through. Americans of every faith and background are committed to this goal.

Yesterday I visited the site of the destruction in New York City and saw an amazing spirit of sacrifice and patriotism and defiance. I met with rescuers who have worked past exhaustion, who cheered for our country and the great cause we have entered.

In Washington, D.C., the political parties and both Houses of Congress have shown a remarkable unity, and I'm deeply grateful. A terrorist attack designed to tear us apart has instead bound us together as a nation. Over the past few days, we have learned much about American courage -- the courage of firefighters and police officers who suffered so great a loss, the courage of passengers aboard United 93 who may well have fought with the hijackers and saved many lives on the ground.

Now we honor those who died, and prepare to respond to these attacks on our nation. I will not settle for a token act. Our response must be sweeping, sustained and effective. We have much do to, and much to ask of the American people.

You will be asked for your patience; for, the conflict will not be short. You will be asked for resolve; for, the conflict will not be easy. You will be asked for your strength, because the course to victory may be long.

In the past week, we have seen the American people at their very best everywhere in America. Citizens have come together to pray, to give blood, to fly our country's flag. Americans are coming together to share their grief and gain strength from one another.

Great tragedy has come to us, and we are meeting it with the best that is in our country, with courage and concern for others. Because this is America. This is who we are. This is what our enemies hate and have attacked. And this is why we will prevail.

Thank you for listening.

Great picture! Who are the two guys behind Colin Powell?

The two guys after Powell are Don Rumsfeld, Sec. of Defense and all around tough guy. After him is Paul Wolfowitz, number 2 at defense, tough and realllly smart, genious I think.

Thanks. C-SPAN is repeating the radio address, at least on C-SPAN radio. They're probably repeating it on television too.

Matthew 5:44-45 (KJV): But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you; that ye may be children of your Father which is in heaven; for he maketh his son to rise on the evil and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust. Sorry bud, but you just can't use the New Testament to justify vengeance and violence toward our enemnies. You'll need to find something else.

I've found my something else.

This is a conflict without battlefields or beachheads, a conflict with opponents who believe they are invisible. Yet, they are mistaken. They will be exposed, and they will discover what others in the past have learned: Those who make war against the United States have chosen their own destruction.

Do you support President Bush??. . .

I wonder why the delay.

And I just wonder simply: why?

Bump to the top! Thanks, aristeides, for doing this. I think it is something we need to do weekly---maybe adding the date--so that when a search is done, the most recent Radio Address will show up.

As a child,I remember my entire family huddled around our large radio in our rural Nebraska residence listening to FDR on these weekly radio broadcasts. I daresay that scene will now be repeated in many American homes.

God bless America and all of its freedom-loving people!

Nice to see grownups in charge.

Impossible to imagine Gore and Clinton's incompetent corrupt cabinet with these events.

Divine Providence has again blessed the United States.

"Just three days removed from these events, Americans do not yet have the distance of history, but our responsibility to history is already clear: to answer these attacks and rid the world of evil. War has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder. ccc This nation is peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger. This conflict was begun on the timing and terms of others; it will end in a way and at an hour of our choosing.

George W Bush
President of the United States of America

It's so funny to me that he used the phrase--this is who we are. I was a serious fan of the cancelled TV show Millenium--about the forces of light struggling to contain the forces of darkness. The Millenium Group was supposed to be a modern day extension of the Knights Templar going back to the 1st millenium. Peter Watts was the character who was the spokesperson for the group's mission as he tried to enlist Frank Black, another character, to the cause. He always ended his explanations of the religious overtones of the group's mission by saying "This is who we are."

As a lifelong NYC resident who watched in horror as the WTC collapsed and burned I have been overwhelmed with gratitude for being part of this great city--I watched the rescue teams working so hard to find people and I said to myself "This is who we are."

When assistance came out from all over the country and even the NYC haters on this board expressed admiration for our toughness I thought of what America really means to me and I said to myself "This is who we are."

Today as our president and his team begin to build a mighty coalition to eradicate the evil enemy and he talked of smoking them out of their holes he said "This is who we are."

I do believe that we will prevail because we are strong and good people who have rediscovered our faith in God and country this week--this is who we are.

Yes, as many have stated, we are a family, who bickers and fights with each other all the time. But, when a family member is hurt, it is an attack on the ENTIRE family, and we will rush together to respond!!

Politics is unimportant, petty grievances are unimportant, to help our fellow family member in this time of crisis is what is important. To destroy the filth that have killed many of our family is now paramount!!

I did not say that their deeds should go unpunished or that we should not protect our national security. I just said that you can't use the New Testament to justify this. I stand behind our President and I would give my life to protect America and the freedom for which America stands.

I voted against Clinton twice and for President Bush, and if you ever read any of my posts on Clinton, you will know that no one was a bigger Clinton critic than me. He should be in jail as we speak.

The point is, that God loves Usama Bin Laden as much as he loves you and me, and as much as he loved the children who died at the hands of these terrorists. If you do not understand this, you have no understanding of Christianity.
