Washington -- LUCKY THOUGH he was, Bill Clinton never had his shot at greatness. He could lower the jobless rate, balance the budget, console us after the Oklahoma City bombing.

But he never got the opportunity George W. Bush was given this Tuesday: the historic chance to lead. Our American spirit, power and enterprise now stand ready for orders. Only the president can give them.

I think we should be thanking our luck stars that Clinton and his children are NOT in charge at this time, and that ADULTS are!

Poor Chris attempting to get attention by telling the President what to do. Russert the same way now on NBC. What a bunch of phonies. These are the same people who advised Clinton and Gore.

Another danger is that President Bush will appear to be doing nothing at all, that he will lack the fire for this task.

Then SHUT UP, Matthews, and let Bush and the military and intel agencies work out a plan. This is a new kind of warfare, moron, and answers are not gonna come overnight. It took us years to get to this problem, and it will take years to eliminate it.

Yeah, Bush is real lucky right now.

Matthews ought to be ashamed.

But, I bet you Clinton feels this. I bet he saw what happened and thought to himself, "why could I have not been so lucky?"

He could lower the jobless rate,
He did nothing to do this.
balance the budget,
He did not even attempt to do this until after Republicans took over the House and forced it upon him.
console us after the Oklahoma City bombing.
He felt our pain, he bit his lip, he wagged his finger, he sold pardons, sold secrets, wasted tons of cash on travelling the world, left our economy in disrepair, left our military and intelligence communities in even worse disrepair.

But he never got the opportunity George W. Bush was given this Tuesday: the historic chance to lead.

Opinions are like rear ends, everybody has one. Matthew's problem is that he has a big mouth and his opinions really don't matter now. Bush, I think, will act and talk about it later. Then Chris can really show us how big an ass he is.

Matthews is sick. Trying to compare Bush to Klinton while thousansds of Americans are buried in rubble. An opportunity? In wonder how many lives Matthews is willing to sacrifice for an "opportunity" to lead.

BTW - Klinton rarely led, but he polled instead.

The sick thing is that Clinton is probably angry something like this didn't happen during his 'reign'.

How crass and inappropriate. Not to mention a sick time to perpetuate revisionist history about Clintoon.

Clinton did have his opportunity to lead. The most important long range financial issue of our times, the conversion of social security from a pay as you go Ponzi scheme to a true savings program for individuals, he ignored so Democrats could run for office by frightening senior citizens. Welfare reform he signed in desperation, facing a veto override. On national security he talked big, but did absolutely nothing about Khobar and USS Cole. Clinton was a frivolous and inconsequential president, who left a mess behind for others to clean up. And this is not even to mention his deep corruption.

From the article: "The goal here is not to get mad but to get even. "

No. The goal is to regain my right to keep and bear a pocket-knife.

There is something very distressing about viewing militant enemies parading in front of the cameras waving thier AK-47s. Here is Kalifornia I am denied possession of my rifle because it has a pistol grip on it.

What is wrong with the people of our country that they choose weakness instead of strength? What is wrong with Chris Matthews that he does not wonder about a plane load of passengers who are helpless in the face of a box-cutter?

It is no wonder that every bully in the world chooses us as a target.

Note to Chris: do not confuse silence with inaction. Just because you aren't hearing what you think you ought to be hearing doesn't mean that the White House isn't on the job. You and your assinine cronies in the news media want to be reassured? Want to be coddled? Want to be in on the information? FORGET IT. You don't have to be in the loop. That's not how this part of the task is performed -- if you want it to work. You guys do everything in your power to let enemies of the United States (your country, in case you forgot) know every move of the military. You've lost your trust - both with the people and with THIS version of the White House.

So shut up, listen more, and speak less. You're about to learn something about the way these things are properly conducted.

Totally agree. Told my wife this last night also. I told her that I am sure as hell that Klinton is beating his fist on a table wishing he had this happen so he could be out in public, looking into the cameras and spuing his spill and wanting to take this shot at his legacy.

The opening of this column is beneath contempt. Chris Matthews, who is often quite sharp, should be ashamed. One of the things that made Clinton so utterly contemptible is precisely that you could imagine him revelling in his chance to show the world how great he is. He was once famously quoted saying he wished he could have been president during World War II. No decent human being could ever wish such a horror on the world.

One of the things I love about Bush is that I know he'd live and die a happy man if he'd never come close to this sort of tragedy--that it would never enter his mind to welcome it as "a chance to prove himself." What narcissistic crap! People who think that way should scarcely be allowed to drive a car, much less run a country.

LUCKY THOUGH he was, Bill Clinton never had his shot at greatness.

In 1993 When Bill Clinton was president one of the very same Twin Towers that is now nothing more than a pile of rubble was attacked by the very same Arab terrorist groups that are in all probability responsible for or connected to this attack. Bill Clinton had innumerable chances for a shot at greatness but he preferred a shot at the Monica Lewinsky of the day instead.

Crass and inappropriate??
How about deliberate denigration of the President of the United States? The poster boy, of whom Matthews is but just one candidate for the effite snobs of the media, also implies that Dubya lacks not only courage but the wherewithal to lead the country -
"If Bush is smart, he will tell the American people exactly what we're dealing with here: a smart, state-of-the-art, ruthless enemy whose route to eternal glory is over our dead bodies.

If Bush is smart, he knows that the hijackers have anticipated -- and discounted -- his own next steps as well. He will share that fact as well with the American people. "

If anyone is to be on a sheiser list it is Chriss Matthews, a partisan no good bastard masquerading as a patriot...

Did you read Thomas Friedman's column in today's NY Times?..Boy, this guy, normally an idiot, got religion in a hurry.....BTW..what Matthew's doesn't say yet, though everyone is probably thinking it, is thaty the political calculus for 2002 is completely changed......
