But he never got the opportunity George W. Bush was given this Tuesday: the historic chance to lead. Our American spirit, power and enterprise now stand ready for orders. Only the president can give them.

Clinton did have his opportunity to lead. The most important long range financial issue of our times, the conversion of social security from a pay as you go Ponzi scheme to a true savings program for individuals, he ignored so Democrats could run for office by frightening senior citizens. Welfare reform he signed in desperation, facing a veto override. On national security he talked big, but did absolutely nothing about Khobar and USS Cole. Clinton was a frivolous and inconsequential president, who left a mess behind for others to clean up. And this is not even to mention his deep corruption.

There is something very distressing about viewing militant enemies parading in front of the cameras waving thier AK-47s. Here is Kalifornia I am denied possession of my rifle because it has a pistol grip on it.

What is wrong with the people of our country that they choose weakness instead of strength? What is wrong with Chris Matthews that he does not wonder about a plane load of passengers who are helpless in the face of a box-cutter?

Note to Chris: do not confuse silence with inaction. Just because you aren't hearing what you think you ought to be hearing doesn't mean that the White House isn't on the job. You and your assinine cronies in the news media want to be reassured? Want to be coddled? Want to be in on the information? FORGET IT. You don't have to be in the loop. That's not how this part of the task is performed -- if you want it to work. You guys do everything in your power to let enemies of the United States (your country, in case you forgot) know every move of the military. Totally agree. Told my wife this last night also. I told her that I am sure as hell that Klinton is beating his fist on a table wishing he had this happen so he could be out in public, looking into the cameras and spuing his spill and wanting to take this shot at his legacy.

The opening of this column is beneath contempt. Chris Matthews, who is often quite sharp, should be ashamed. One of the things that made Clinton so utterly contemptible is precisely that you could imagine him revelling in his chance to show the world how great he is. He was once famously quoted saying he wished he could have been president during World War II. No decent human being could ever wish such a horror on the world.

One of the things I love about Bush is that I know he'd live and die a happy man if he'd never come close to this sort of tragedy--that it would never enter his mind to welcome it as "a chance to prove himself." What narcissistic crap! People who think that way should scarcely be allowed to drive a car, much less run a country.

How about deliberate denigration of the President of the United States? The poster boy, of whom Matthews is but just one candidate for the effite snobs of the media, also implies that Dubya lacks not only courage but the wherewithal to lead the country -
