THIS IS WAR
By Ann Coulter
Barbara Olson kept her cool. In the hysteria and terror of hijackers herding passengers to the rear of the plane, she retrieved her cell phone and called her husband, Ted, the solicitor general of the United States. She informed him that he had better call the FBI (news - web sites) -- the plane had been hijacked. According to reports, Barbara was still on the phone with Ted when her plane plunged in a fiery explosion directly into the Pentagon (news - web sites).
Barbara risked having her neck slit to warn the country of a terrorist attack. She was a patriot to the very end.
This is not to engage in the media's typical hallucinatory overstatement about anyone who is the victim of a horrible tragedy. The furtive cell phone call was an act of incredible daring and panache. If it were not, we'd be hearing reports of a hundred more cell phone calls. (Even people who swear to hate cell phones carry them for commercial air travel.)
The last time I saw Barbara in person was about three weeks ago. She generously praised one of my recent columns and told me I had really found my niche. Ted, she said, had taken to reading my columns aloud to her over breakfast.
I mention that to say three things about Barbara. First, she was really nice. A lot of people on TV seem nice, but aren't. (And some who don't seem nice, are.) But Barbara was always her charming, graceful, ebullient self. "Nice" is an amazingly rare quality among writers. In the opinion business, bitter, jealous hatred is the norm. Barbara had reason to be secure.
Second, it was actually easy to imagine Ted reading political columns aloud to Barbara at the breakfast table. Theirs was a relationship that could only be cheaply imitated by Bill and Hillary -- the latter being a subject of Barbara's appropriately biting best seller, "Hell to Pay."
Hillary claimed preposterously in the Talk magazine interview that she discussed policy with Bill while cutting his grapefruit in the morning. Ted and Barbara really did talk politics -- and really did have breakfast together.
It's "Ted and Barbara" just like it's Fred and Ginger, and George and Gracie. They were so perfect together, so obvious, that their friends were as happy they were on their wedding day. This is more than the death of a great person and patriotic American. It's a human amputation.
Third, since Barbara's compliment, I've been writing my columns for Ted and Barbara. I'm always writing to someone in my head. Now I don't know who to write to. Ted and Barbara were a good muse.
Apart from hearing that this beautiful light has been extinguished from the world, only one other news flash broke beyond the numbingly omnipresent horror of the entire day. That evening, CNN reported that bombs were dropping in Afghanistan (news - web sites) -- and then updated the report to say they weren't our bombs.
They should have been ours. I want them to be ours.
This is no time to be precious about locating the exact individuals directly involved in this particular terrorist attack. Those responsible include anyone anywhere in the world who smiled in response to the annihilation of patriots like Barbara Olson.
We don't need long investigations of the forensic evidence to determine with scientific accuracy the person or persons who ordered this specific attack. We don't need an "international coalition." We don't need a study on "terrorism." We certainly didn't need a congressional resolution condemning the attack this week.
The nation has been invaded by a fanatical, murderous cult. And we welcome them. We are so good and so pure we would never engage in discriminatory racial or "religious" profiling.
People who want our country destroyed live here, work for our airlines, and are submitted to the exact same airport shakedown as a lumberman from Idaho. This would be like having the Wehrmacht immigrate to America and work for our airlines during World War II. Except the Wehrmacht was not so bloodthirsty.
"All of our lives" don't need to change, as they keep prattling on TV. Every single time there is a terrorist attack -- or a plane crashes because of pilot error -- Americans allow their rights to be contracted for no purpose whatsoever.
The airport kabuki theater of magnetometers, asinine questions about whether passengers "packed their own bags," and the hostile, lumpen mesomorphs ripping open our luggage somehow allowed over a dozen armed hijackers to board four American planes almost simultaneously on Bloody Tuesday. (Did those fabulous security procedures stop a single hijacker anyplace in America that day?)
Airports scrupulously apply the same laughably ineffective airport harassment to Suzy Chapstick as to Muslim hijackers. It is preposterous to assume every passenger is a potential crazed homicidal maniac. We know who the homicidal maniacs are. They are the ones cheering and dancing right now.
We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war.

Total lunacy.
One thing is certain - many more here will die before anything changes.

We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. Amen, and I would add that we should seize the oilfields that have been funding terrorists for over thirty years !

How can we get Hitlery to keep that mask on indefinitely? She's a little easier to take like that.I noticed that too. It definitely improves her appearance.

Okay, watch me, I like the attention. I'll be at the F.A.I.R.(Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting) website to catalogue Ann's various fallacies and outright hogwash. Should take a few hours. Some Free Republic, no dissenting opinions around. I guess that's where the term "ditto-heads" came from. Ann should hold high her regard for her good friend Barbara instead of using her obit as another forum to attack her arch-enemy Hillary. The fact that you could even post your opposing opinions here indicate that you're attempt to misrepresent the Fre Republic are a farce. I welcome dissenting opinions; just make sure you can argue them with verifiable facts, which I called upon you to do in a previous post.
Instead, you just start the name-calling. Do you not have any reasoned thoughts for your opinions?
If there is anything that F.A.I.R. is not, it's fair. In my opinion, their attempts to muzzle, exclusively, conservative political opinion demonstrates that they stand for exactly the opposite of what they claim. Go to their website, my friend, with an open mind. Compare and contrast.
Attack Hillary? I didn't see an attack in Ann's piece! Maybe I missed it, could you excerpt it for me? I attacked Hillary in a previous post, when I agreed with another poster that the last eight years of foreign policy were lowbrow, asinine, Arkansas-hilljack, attempts by a First Couple who were in way over their heads. Perhaps you got the posts confused. Regards.

Convert them? What ever happened to freedom of religion? Not all muslims are bad. Many of them in our armed forces, during the gulf war, were used as translators and were loyal to our country. Since they were muslims why didn't they get kicked out of our army. The once dancing in the streets should be taught a lesson. If these people are so bad why would we want them as christians?
No, not all muslims are bad, but ALL who want to be citizens of this country NEED to be converted......to Americans. Otherwise, don't come over here. Don't shove your "multi-culturalism" down our throats. If you want to worship your culture, stay where it's welcome. Otherwise, become an American in the full sense of the word.

The supporting terrorists deserve to die; there is no question. However, the issue needs to be put into proper perspective - if that's possible.
The horrific terrorist attack on America was a repeat event with a long history - make no mistake about it.
That attack has its roots in the Afghan war. Osama Bin Laden received his training, experience and his initial assets there. In the aftermath of the Afghan war, many Muslims, probably thousands, were assisted in gaining residence / citizenship for their support of the CIA efforts in Afghanistan. Beyond the Afghan refugees, an unknown number of Kurds were also flown into the U.S., as refugees from the Gulf War.
Prejudice being what it is, few questioned the role of the CIA in the Afghan war. Intelligence is one thing, war is another. Yet, in the shadowed tradition of the secret war in Laos & Cambodia, the U.S. intelligence agency was essentially conducting a war against the Russians.
Among other issues of that effort, comes the non-accountability of such assets as the supply of Stinger missiles from the Afghan conflict.
The first World Trade Center bombing was in 1993. The Muslim connection is well known. In the background of that effort was another Bin Laden terrorist effort, known as "Project Bojinka," targeting U.S. Airliners in the Pacific. By accident, it was discovered in the Philippines and thwarted. Note that there was no warning to Americans.
One of the key players in Project Bojinka was an individual known as Ramsi Yousef. He was also one of those convicted in the first WTC bombing. Yousef, among other things, told the FBI that his 'group' was responsible for the downing of TWA-800. That claim has more than sufficient credibility to be taken very seriously.
While 'official' sources denied any criminal activity in TWA-800, Yousef's claim has radically more merit and probability than the nonsensical 'short-circuit' claim of the NTSB. The discovery of the PETN traces indicate a U.S. military 2.75 inch solid rocket motor. The alleged bomb-dog test doesn't hold water. The number of witnesses who claimed to have seen a missile numbered in the hundreds. There was too much evidence that TWA-800 was taken down by at least one missile. Other than nonsensical theory, there was no evidence of the center-wing fuel tank explosion as the initial event. The 'official' proving theories and tests don't hold up under elementary scrutiny.
In brief, there is no shortage of protests documenting government cover-up in the TWA-800 disaster.
In the case of the Oklahoma City bombing, McVeigh's attorney turned up frightening evidence of a middle-eastern connection. His requests for further evidence were denied. The introduction of the middle-eastern connection in court was stifled. The forewarning by the BATF informant, Carol Howe was suppressed.
Now, with the facilitation of all agencies looking the other way, America faces the recent tragedy and a terrible aftermath, which will forever change the freedoms of America. That didn't have to happen.
A relatively well-known GAO report to Congress slams the FAA for the lax security standards. Part of the report was kept secret, as it damnably quantified the risk to Americans - still no change. A recent report warned that such an event was imminent. Why was there no significant warning? Why was there no stepped up security?
The Boston airport, in particular, has a prominent history of lax security standards; what happened?
Three weeks before the 9-11 attack, the overseas papers quoted Bin Laden as saying that a major strike against the USA was soon to come. That's a lot of warning, by any standard. Bin Laden almost always telegraphs a warning - he's not to be ignored. Sixty-minutes did a report on the Afghan sentiments against the U.S. which telegraphed a warning sixty days before the attack. Regardless of who actually did the attack, there were credible warnings of an attack.
Bear in mind that the FAA gave Bin Laden an engraved invitation with their selective ignorance of airport security, defying Congress with the GAO citing the FAA blatant failures. That issue has no shortage of government documentation.
Ramsi Yousef claimed his group was responsible for TWA-800. Yet the FBI's Kallstrom said there was no evidence. So, why did the FBI go fishing for Stinger remnants after the recovery effort?
Still, there was no appreciable increase to aircraft security. The FAA has a nifty set of "stall tactics;" there was no appreciable increase anywhere. Rhetoric will be heard to the effect of, "...changes were proposed." As usual, results are as evasive as ever.
One should note the New York Times catch of the FBI involvement in the first WTC bombing. There was warning!
The FAA allowed a smuggler's paradise to be built in the new Guam airport terminal under Clinton. With "Project Bojinka" in the immediate background and the first Muslim attack on the World Trade Center, there was no excuse.
Among others, former FAA security agent, Steve Elson, has had a crusade against all of Washington D.C. on the lack of airport security. There was warning galore - as usual.
Again, Boston, in particular, has a terrible record for airport security.
It's early, but it appears that the hijackers slipped knives past security - no big trick by the FAA 'special' standards. In all likelihood the hijackings were done with teams of 2 - 3 per aircraft.
The news footage of the WTC / Pentagon strikes strongly suggest that the hijackers were skilled pilots, with a bias toward the 757 / 767. Three nearly perfect hits at such an airspeed is too much to ask of either luck or coincidence. The WTC / Pentagon flying was that of a pilot who is current at the controls of a simulator, with practice at hitting specific targets.
The flying exhibited exact planning, practice and recent proficiency. At the airspeed of the strike, the eye-hand coordination demands would be too high for casual flying skill - with, or without, an autopilot engaged. At 290 knots, the individual towers and the front door of the Pentagon are not that big a target.
It's highly probable - and already, reasonably established - that proficiency was acquired / maintained in a Stateside flight simulator facility, offering airliner models with high-level graphics capability, with the WTC & the Pentagon in the visual data-base. It's unlikely that a program such as "Microsoft Flight Simulator" could account for the flying skills exhibited.
Relative to the FAA disregard for safety, evidenced by the GAO report on lax airport security, as well as other legitimate complaints - somebody needs to get the FAA honest. We're very likely to see this again.
The tragedy of Swiss Air 111 illuminated the FAA record for methodically overlooking the aircraft wiring issue. Backing the FAA was a Clinton's Presidential Executive Order 12866 - "If it costs the airline money - don't enforce it." Behind that was a change in U.S. Law, relieving the FAA of the responsibility for aviation safety. The setup was nothing less than methodical.
The FAA has also permitted a flimsy cockpit door design on aircraft which couldn't keep anybody out. The airline industry has had cockpit break-ins before by sky-ragers; this isn't anything new.
Returning to the terrorist issue, one should give notice, that in the history of bombings against the USA, there have been warnings galore in the newspapers, etc, but the security agencies always get surprised. Americans should notice that there have been no changes - until AFTER this disaster.
While the 9-11 terrorist operation was reasonably involved, the greatest probable sophistication was in keeping the pilot's skills up to the needed proficiency, and certainly the timing.
Complexity kills operations such as this, thus it is more probable that the 'dirty dozen,' kept it as simple as possible, with a fair amount of money behind them. The FAA track record on airport security is a joke. The security penetration was probably quite easy. As yet, there is no significant indication of airport 'inside workers.'
Many people are ignorant as to the thousands of Muslims that the CIA brought into the U.S. as a reward for supporting operations overseas.
The Muslim devotion to Islam far exceeds any other loyalty. While Americans are pandered the idealism of the equality issue, tribalism will always rule the planet. Reverse prejudice illuminates that truth in the USA.
With some good propaganda, the terrorists prostitute Islam to produce the tribalism we saw on the eleventh of September, probably taking a lesson from the Crusades.
In a sentence, radical changes are long overdue. It's time for America to demand their fundamental right to life, in addition to the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution. Persecuting the terrorist organizations only treats the symptoms.
Despite the undeniable horror of the 9-11 attacks, it knowingly began with our own government agencies and our own Congress. The issue isn't about apportioning blame, it's in the implementation of the known and needed repair - at home. For starters, Congress needs to reverse the law, making the FAA responsible for safety; then ensuring that the FAA complies with that law.
This horror could have been prevented; with the Congressional changes to Federal Law, and the FAA history of maximizing corporate profits, it was all but guaranteed, in some fashion. History warned us, as did the media; this didn't need to happen.

TightSqueeze, you are misguided. You forgot to mention armed and dangerous. Stifle yourself, we are now at war, you can no longer protect islamic terrorists on our shores or in other lands.
To: tango7799
Quite simply put:
Don't imprison them, deport anyone with an Arabic passport .. including Palestinian, Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian, Lebanese Iraqi, Iranian, Yemeni, Saudi (and any other raghead country that I've omitted) .. whether they have a green card or visa. Cancel them immediately and deport them as enemy nationals.
Don't worry about converting them to Christianity; after we inflict a Carthaginian peace on them, there won't be any left to convert.
Kill them all ... nits make lice.

I don't think it's an either/or. You can be a Muslim and be American. This hyphenated stuff is a load of crap. Just as an American can be Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, etc., an American can also happen to be Muslim or Arab or whatever.
People should worship whatever their conscience allows. Quite obviously, they should do it in their private churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, etc. As the President suggested just now on FoxNews, we should reflect on those who have passed, think about what we can do to deliver justice, and ensure that we do not facilitate terror on Americans who happen to be Muslim.
To: dubyagee
Apples and oranges. Putting armed guards on planes does not restrict my freedoms. As for El Al, if I were interested in living like an Israeli I would move there. My post was aimed at the "wise and knowing" assumption that a lack of effective intelligence and military response should translate into the shaking down of ordinary citizens in a sham show of "security". It is knee-jerk and ineffective.

What a frightening statement. This logic would have allowed McVeigh to escape while targeting people who have a different religion from Ms Coulter.

I agree completely. I have a foreign brother-in-law. Those who come here for love of our country or freedom from oppression, welcome to ya. Those who come here, and proceed to whine because we don't respect their culture, then expect us to teach OUR children THEIR cultures in our schools, can take a flying leap back to where they came from.

Let's get the people who did this act, and stop generalizing to include 400 million others who never did us any harm and probably have often dreamed of immigrating to New York City themselves.

You are right, we are closed minded and disruptors like you can just take your bullsh@# to another likeminded forum. You have rendered yourself invisible here. You should have read the homepage.
To: TightSqueeze
What are you talking about? Me, protecting people? What a load of BS.
I believe in complete destruction of our enemies. But the same logic you use would have permitted interning Americans of Japanese ancestry, German ancestry, and anyone else during World War II. Let's remember our sacred Constitution.
I'm very much in favor of revoking all temporary visas. Green Cards, I don't know. Perhaps those who have not reached their fifth year of green card status, when they become eligible for citizenship. Citizens, however, SHOULD never be forcibly expelled, unless they've shown the slightest hint of harm (in which case, they would be prosecuted).
By the way, for those people who refer to Arabs as ragheads, think about what you're saying. There are millions of Christian Arabs in Lebanon and Syria, who wear "rags." And by your definition, former Michigan GOP Senator and current Sect. of Energy Spence Abraham would be considered a "raghead."

Fine, I just hit the abuse button on myself.
I just had to see how fraudulent it was that you had "free" in the website name. There is nothing to do with freedom or free society in the forum whatsoever.
While your out harassing the "ragheads" in your neighborhood, think of how brave you are being.
"Free" Republic. Hah.
What a joke.
I'll be hitting abuse on myself again and leaving. for good
Hope you all get the fascist police state you so much demand.
