Taliban warns US against attack on Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD : The ruling Taliban authorities in Afghanistan while strongly condemning loss of life and destruction caused by a series of unprecedented act of terrorism on Tuesday in New York and Washington warned the Bush administration that any attack on Afghanistan will be a big mistake.

Afghan envoy to Pakistan Maulvi Abdus Salaam Zaeef addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday night said " the incident which took now in Washington and New York and which caused destruction and killings we strongly condemn it and investigation should be carried against those to brought them to justice".

In reply to question about involvement of Saudi dissident Zaeef said " we do not allow Osama Bin Laden to use our territories against any country for act of terrorism as we strongly condemn it.

We have taken under control all his communication means, this cat is very complicated one in which pilots are involved, Osama has no facility to carry out such activity".

To another query he said "we do not expect from US to take such a speedy and thoughtless action without completing the investigation in to the case. An attack will be a big mistake".

Someone needs to make clear that things are a little different this time and that they have 48 hours to turn over this entire band of barbarians to have any hope whatsoever of surviving. That won't work, and is pointless. OBL can be replaced by a thousand more. This OTOH would work, without carpet bombing Kabul:

Let's just cut Afganistan off from the civilized world for a generation or two.

Destroy the power plants, transmission lines, POL dumps, pipelines, train and car bridges and tunnels and the airports.

Make it impossible for these insane cultists to get out to the world to do any more harm.

Cut them off so thoroughly that a jeep can't get out, and a strong hiker only with great difficulty in about a month of walking over mountains. Use Afganistan's geography against them. Reduce them to a 12th century standard of living.

Then tell Libya, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan etc "this is our new policy for dealing with nations which harbor terrorists".

I think that the Taliban Afghanis themselves want to return to the 12th century. We can't bomb them back to the stone age. They are already there by choice.

We can chase the individual bad guys till the cows come home. IMO, the answer is to make the countries that provide refuge to them pay a price so damned high that it would be unthinkable to shield them. Personally I would start with France.
