that's a great poem. but it sounds like you're in the wrong business after hearing peter jennings today.

i heard that one loud mouth student (elsewhere) who was cheering the act was beaten to a pulp by fellow students. now that's some 'howling' i'd like to see.

Can I join someone else's generation, I'm not too happy about being in mine.

We need you where you are. You have influence. Use it.

But I think a certain number of Republicans groused a lot and called it "Roosevelt's War."

We did. It was.

A draft would be a consideration and why not draft college students be this time around?

I think it unlikely that a draft will be started this time around.

Here at UB, things have ground to a halt, but we're pitching in together. Cell phones have been lent to students from the City to call to check on their loved ones. We tried to get a group of EMT's together to try to go to NY, but that fell apart since we couldnt get authorization to go in time to do much of anything (its a 6-hour drive).

We're pulling together, and becoming patriotic. God bless Amercia, land that I love.

Hey, I had a professor who whined that the Palestinian terrorists were being "exterminated," you should have heard the emotion in his voice. And he was referring VERY specifically to just those people targeted by Israel.

He also didn't like the term "Jihad vs. McWorld" (Huntington's thesis that Muslims are the next major enemy of the civilized world), because the term "Jihad" had religious significance to Muslims.

We have just experienced the first major strike in the Jihad against America, anyone who doubts the extremist Muslims' intent is a fool. Anyone who doubts that most Muslims (not necessarily in America, but around the world) are extremists is a liar. Anyone who doesn't want to believe extremist Islam is one of the greatest threats to the security of the free world because they don't want to be considered "racist" is a coward.

The gen X'ers and the mellinium group unfortunately have no standards or values. How could they as they have never know any adversity. Only from being tested, can one develop a since of anything other than thinking only of themselves.

We didn't cancel classes at Wisconsin, and they're not cancelled tomorrow. It's up to the professors to do it if they want to. I think it's a smart move, and a smart way to do it. Let's show the world that Americans have the power to continue on with their lives despite the terrible loss. We'll make it. And we can't run scared.

Wow, UB? As in the University of Buffalo? I always thought that was a commie stronghold, but things must have changed in the last couple of years.

Your poem was moving... here at my school, everyone's in shock. We had a candlelight vigil for an hour this evening, praying for the victims, their familes, and our leaders. There are a few too many paranoid peace-seekers, but many of us are behind Bush, including many of the liberals.

I shall be spending tomorrow searching for a flag for my door...

Classes were not cancelled at Ithaca College, since we thought it might be helpful to give students a place to gather together for mutual support. We put up TVs in the Campus Center and provided counseling from Counseling Center staff and chaplains. We made telephones available with long distance service for students to make calls. Tonight we held a candlelight vigil with lots of prayer and song, including the 23rd Psalm. At the end there was a spontaneous singing of the Star Spangled Banner.

The politics here are still just left of Mars, never fear. In the end, though, there's still a common sense of humanity, and of loss, and of mourning...

Northern Colorado. My professor's faculty recital, always a big event, was postponed. I must say I was surprised. I guess some of the sheep are aware something happened...

I attend the University of Florida. Everyone I talked to was quite upset about everything today. Five of us spent hours watching the news reports and talking about this....

we couldnt get authorization to go in time to do much of anything (its a 6-hour drive).

They will still be pulling living people out from the fringes for a couple days, if they haven't all suffocated. And there are always the quirky survivors in basements.
The Israelis have offered a search team and may be coming and they are more than six hours away, but EMT's may be in oversupply per living victim by the time you could get there. Can't say, but I wouldn't assume it.

Also, this point has not be clarified, but it sounded as though they were triaging the victims right outside the building.
Although we know a lot of firefighters have been lost, there is no mention of all the EMT's that surrounded the towers before they collapsed on them.
