Federal, State Authorities Mass Near Salem in Standoff

Salem, Mo. (AP) -- A highway north of Salem remains closed Friday as a standoff involving federal agents enters its second day, at a Dent County home.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and U.S. Customs were called in about 2 p.m. Thursday to serve a federal search warrant at the house. It's about eight miles north of Salem on Missouri 68.

When the resident refused to come outside, ATF spokesman Larry Scott says authorities surrounded the home and began a stakeout.

Scott has declined to identify the homeowner. He also won't say how many people are believed to be inside the home, or whether they could have access to weapons. Authorities have closed a three-mile stretch of the highway around the home.

Ran a search and didn't see this posted. Local news said tonight that methampethamines were suspected, but (and I quote) "perhaps more importantly, illegal weapons charges."

Could be nothing. Could be another ATF special.

Seems to me that those bas**rds at the BATF are very antsy for another Waco or Ruby Ridge.

There is no pattern here. When they burn him alive it will be because he deserves it. Law enforcement officials never do anything wrong. They should just set the fire now and get it over with. If we can save the precious blood of a single law enforcement official it will be worth it.

I'm not a big anti-government type, but it does seem quite evident that at the very least, the BATF is only interested in validating their validity. And if it takes making mountains out of molehills to ensure their existence, they're all for it.
