Few of the Emperors could be called great. But he was one of them.

and a relief from many of the rather empty and vacuous threads current running on Free Republic. I haven't posted a vanity in months!

PBS would be wise to re-broadcast it.

small quibble -- I, Claudius was a BBC production that PBS later rebroadcast. Luckily for all of us, it's on DVD now. :')

One of these days I'm going to get I, Claudius and Upstairs Downstairs on DVD.

Always interested to read about the Greeks and Romans. Amazing how advanced society was way back then. I often fantasize about going back in time to Rome in it's heyday just to see what it was really like.
Also fascinating is the Middle Ages and how progress just came to a screeching halt for over 1,000 years. Until the Renaissance kicked things back into gear.

The first time I'd seen it was on DVD, which I checked out three or four years ago at the library. At that time they would only check out DVDs for three days at a time, so it took a while to see the whole thing in order. Definitely nice to have around all the time (Christmas present).

"
I've heard comparisons of Bill Clinton to Caligula and G.W. Bush to Claudius. If an historical pattern is being followed, the next president to follow will be a Nero. Not good news. Let's hope it's not the case."
Wow, turns out the following "president" was a Nero. The usurper Barry Soetero.
Found my way here via SunkenCiv's recent post (last link in the list - "Lives of the Twelve Caesars: Claudius [2001]").
