End Congressinal and presidential pensions: let them count on soicial security, 401k's, IRAs, etc. like the rest of us.Or take the pensions and salaries of the Congress out of the hands of Congress, and let the individual states decide the compensation for their own.
Make them more accountable to their own constituents...

That's an excellent idea. I'm not sure if there are any constitutional problems with that--wasn't it decided that state-enacted term limits violated the Constitution b/c the Constitution prescribed the requirements of congresspeople? I don't recall the exact legal arguments and perhaps compensation would be tied in with that.
We need to do something. It's become top heavy and unfair. Someone mentioned on another thread that once people are elected to congress, they're set for life...and that's NOT what the founders intended. Just think about the ever-expanding list of congresspeople we have to fund; and as the population grows, more districts are drawn.....we're supporting these people in perpetuity. The problem will only get worse and worse.
perhaps a DRASTIC change in compensation structure is a replacement for the term limits that didn't go anywhere. There won't be the riches... instead it will attract people who actually do want to serve their country, not just get wealthy.

I guess it's business as usual for Chief of Staff Mike Dayton too. Saw him leave his residence this morning at 9:30--took off in a white Explorer, VA tags: ZET 7971. By the time he got through traffic and parked, he probably got to his desk right about 10.
BTW, I remember Dayton studiously making the point on LKL that he usually rides his bike to work; struck me a tad odd he felt the necessity to provide this tidbit to the public.
I'll check with Don Vance today about the fund-raiser protest. I remember a suggestion on a previous thread that we should rent the space next to the Hug-a-Condit-bring-money festivities.
Also, I don't have any knowledge concerning congressional funding payments.

Yes. You need to be able to play table tennis. Once someone catches you in a lie, the faster you lob "How DARE you?" back at them, the better a player you are. And when you run out of ways to pervert truthseeking into that "evil," judgement, then bite your lip and weep, weep, weep. As long as you show contrition, it matters not if you killed 5 kids or choked an intern in a fit of rage. Wrong is only Right, having a bad hair day. Boo hoo.

Unfortunately, it is a difficult one to actually ever pass. Not only would we have to overcome Congressional inertia (and resistance to cede control of their own salary determination), the constitution states that they be paid from the US Treasury.
An amendment would be needed.
However, it could be an effective populist issue for a conservative candidate to add to their campaign. It would be a difficult one to argue against in public, which is a characteristic of effective populist gambits.
And if enough people run having used this as a campaign issue, who knows?
