Thanks for bumping my suggestion into the new thread.

Again, I don't mean to infer that Freepers on the monthly donation plan be given special privileges or special status. Just a little recognition next to their names that lets the forum know that they are contributing to Free Republic on a monthly basis. Doesn't have to be an asterisk. It could be their screen names showing up in red or something like that.

Do that, and a lot of people will want to get their screen names recognized as well.

Frankly, I can't say enough about the monthly contribution. It comes out through my ATM card every month and I don't even notice it because I cancelled delivery of the Boston Globe when I set it up initially for $10 a month and then cancelled HBO when I upped it to $20 a month a few months ago. Can't say I miss the Globe or HBO but I sure would miss Free Republic if that went away.

E-mail from Mr. Robinson would thrill me. I would probably have to download it and print it out. :) Seriously, I admire him and his family, so much, for what they are doing for our Country. I receive e-mail from the RNC. Often times it is a request for a donation, for various reasons. I'm never offened. To me, this is a fact of life. It cost money, to do things. :)

John, we have discussed this several times with Jim and have always fallen back on the "spam" issue and discarded it. Personally, I don't think it is spam. In fact, I think many FReepers would appreciate getting a notice about a current fundraiser.

The fundraising team works round the clock for weeks to get funding for 3 months. Now that we don't have the Clinton's in office, raising money to reach our budgetary requirements is tougher. In my opinion, anything we can do to lighten their load is on the table. These people are volunteers and there is only so much we can ask of them.

That aside, it has gone beyond the spam question, it is now a question of reaching our budgetary requirements. If we fail, than I suggest start making a list of where the first budget cuts are going to be made.
