Musk has big plans for Tesla and SpaceX in the Lone Star State, and now faces a blue wall of opposition
Elon Musk made a $225 million bet on Texas. Now, a new wave of Democratic leaders has the power to stall his projects.
Musk-run companies like SpaceX SPCX 8.62%increase; up pointing triangle and Tesla TSLA 4.23%increase; up pointing triangle have flourished in the state thanks to white-glove treatment from elected officials—mainly Republicans—including tax incentives, infrastructure benefits, and legislation that makes it difficult to sue his companies. That is about to change, Texas Democrats who spoke to The Wall Street Journal said.
Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa beat incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and is suing him to obtain communications between his office and Musk. She campaigned on slowing down data-center development and her opposition to certain land deals that involve the world’s richest man.
“His projects are being approved in a way that other projects have not been,” said Democratic state Rep. Mary González, whose district includes parts of El Paso. “We need to make sure rules are being followed.”
Plans for the sale of public parks to SpaceX have drawn particular ire from Democrats and even some Republicans.
In September, a federal judge approved a Trump administration decision to transfer about 700 acres of land in a federal wildlife refuge to SpaceX, despite opposition from conservation groups. In Hinojosa’s first news conference as governor-elect on Thursday, she said she had asked to delay the state’s discussions about another land deal in Boca Chica State...

They certainly like foreign capitalists.
Elon will call in a favor and it will be nice to see these illegally in office (vote fraud) get burned in court.....Space X is cloaked under National Security but these brain dead Anti-American socialists don’t think properly or that far ahead.
“despite opposition from conservation groups”
Oh Wow!
All of a sudden they care about land use?
They’ve said nothing about mass immigration and the mass environmental destruction that comes with it.
LOL. There you go. Harm Texas’s economy right off the bat. Way to go you Trump hating morons. I guess you showed him, huh? Yippee-ki-yay.
Move to florida.
Gina- not only Musk, but you need to go after all those tech companies that moved to your state. Also, Texas could use a big new state income tax and a corporate tax.
Also, how much longer are you going to allow these businesses to operate without regulation.
You know Gina, football is a toxic masculine sport. Time to go after that too.
Dream Big Gina, dream BIG!!
No land in Singapore. It’s an Island and no dope allowed. Spit on the sidewalk and you’re arrested.
Bingo.
Pensacola is not on EST so Monday night football starts at 7 I do believe. If that nut in Minnesota can succeed Kornblocker we’re all screwed even in the red states.
Exactly
Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if Musk doesn’t have tons of incriminating e-mails/texts at his beck and call.
They can make that amendment disappear.
Dems doing what Dems do best - torturing businesses. At least the Texas Senate is still solidly under Republican control (19 to 12) to limit the damage.
Be careful what you wish for.
Fees aren’t income tax....We have about 95 “fees” here in NYS.
It would require 2/3 vote of both the Texas House and Texas Senate, and a majority vote of the citizens. 74% of the citizens voted for the ban in 2019.
