TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations will shut down operations in Florida after a federal court rejected its request to reverse its designation as a terrorist group Wednesday night.
The ruling came after the State of Florida designated the Muslim civil rights group as a terrorist organization under a new Florida law that gave the state the ability to pull funding from institutions.
The designation took effect Thursday, forcing CAIR and CAIR-Florida to shut down operations in the state.
CAIR announced Thursday plans to appeal the decision, calling the claims baseless and saying the new law violates the organization’s due process and First Amendment rights.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, CAIR-Florida Executive Director Hiba Rahim rejected the claims, saying the law had “profoundly disturbing parallels to authoritarian states,” and that officials branding Muslim nonprofits as terrorist groups will have “devastating consequences for our rights, our supporters, and the communities we serve.”
“Years ago, when Alabama banned the NAACP from operating in the state, the U.S. Supreme Court ultimately issued a landmark decision protecting every American’s freedom of association,” Rahim said. “We trust that the courts in our case, too, will ultimately uphold the fundamental rights we are entitled to as Americans and the constitutional freedoms that protect every one of us.”
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier took to social media Thursday morning, calling the ruling a “great win by our Solicitor General’s office and for the people of Florida.

Shortly after its forming in the late 1920s, it was supported by the UK’s MI6 for various programs of anti-nationalism, anti-communism, etc.... Those connections stood for decades, and were expanded to include other Islamist groups like Jamaat-e-Islami and Al Qaeda. I have no doubts American intel have been deeply involved as well
It’s important to see the MB as something controlled, manipulated and highly political. Not organic, not civil, not religious.
