Gov. Hochul beat Republican Bruce Blakeman Tuesday to win reelection for a second full term as governor as New York Democrats turned out in droves in a blue wave driven by President Trump’s deep unpopularity.
Hochul led Blakeman by a landslide with the early reporting, capping off a remarkable political comeback from her uncomfortably narrow first reelection win in 2022.
Hochul racked up huge margins in New York City and held her ground in the suburbs and upstate to turn aside the challenge from Blakeman, the Nassau County executive who had needed to run the table outside the five boroughs.
It was always going to be an extremely heavy lift to beat a well known and fairly popular Democrat in deep-blue New York, especially for a candidate like Blakeman, who is not particularly well known outside his political home turf on Long Island.
But Blakeman’s chances of winning were made much worse by a powerful Democratic midterms blue wave driven by voter anger over Trump’s unpopular policies including the war with Iran and his trade war tariffs, especially the ones targeting neighboring Canada.
Despite the powerful political tail winds boosting Hochul, the victory was a political redemption from her shockingly close win over ex-Rep. Lee Zeldin in 2022.

NY gets what they deserve and want.
These people can’t inflict enough pain on themselves....look for congestion pricing to be implemented across the whole city, numerous new taxes will be established, Rikers Island will be closed releasing more criminals on the streets and of course crime will increase - friggin idiots but I feel bad for those upstate, they really should figure out how to secede.

I don't feel bad for them. According to the article, Hochul "held her ground in the suburbs and upstate" -- which means they voted for her. So they deserve whatever misery she inflicts on them.

My County voted for Blakeman.
Interesting that no votes have yet been counted in Albany County. They’re probably still busy printing.
The Daily News reports that Blakeman was unfamiliar to people outside of Long Island.

She is going to go full DSA. as a former New Yorker, it is a shame. I moved to Texas, in part, to get away from this insanity. Unfortunately, Texas seems to be flipping from red to blue. I’m paying about the same property taxes here in Texas that I would be paying in New York.
Mamdani is elated. She said he’s going to get his tax increase next year.
They call them blue states because you have to “suffer to sing the blues”.
