Democrats, unaffiliated voters fuel record early voting turnout in North Carolina
WRAL ^ | November 1, 2026

North Carolinians flocked to early voting sites in record numbers ahead of the Nov. 3 election — turnout driven in large part by Democrats and unaffiliated voters who weighed in on constitutional amendments and picked candidates for U.S. Congress, the state legislature, courts and local offices.

Early voting ended Saturday. The next opportunity for voters to cast a ballot in person is on Election Day, which is Tuesday Nov. 3. Polls on that day will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters are assigned precincts for Election Day voting. Precincts and sample ballots can be found using the state’s voter search tool online.

Earlier this week, North Carolinians broke the state record for most ballots cast during early voting in a midterm election. Through Friday, about 33% of eligible North Carolina voters had cast a ballot either by mail or in person at an early voting site. Democratic and unaffiliated voters cast about three-quarters of the 2.6 million ballots as of Friday, according to the most up-to-date state data. Almost 311,000 of those votes came from Wake County, where 36% of eligible voters had already cast a ballot through Friday.

Early-voting sites closed at 3 p.m. Saturday. The final day of early voting is typically among the busiest. Turnout data for Saturday is expected to be released Sunday, providing a more complete picture of early-voting turnout in the state.

North Carolina End of Early In-Person Voting
🔴 2024: R+41,457
🔵 2026: D+343,548

Republicans did not win a single day of early voting. Even when high-propensity voters were red, those gains were overwhelmed by exceptionally blue turnout among less frequent voters.— Zachary Donnini (@ZacharyDonnini) November 1, 2026

It doesn’t look good. For the past several years Republicans have had a super majority in the legislature. It’s been a firewall against a string of fake “moderate” Democrat governors. Hopefully Trump deranged Dems have tapped out early, while Republicans will show up big time on Election Day.

Dream on. I fear it’s over. The consequences of the failure to finish the war is likely to lose us ME, NC, OH, IA, TX, SC (nice woman but the nepotism is too much), Alaska, and TN Dem governor will replace Mitch sooner or later. 45 to 55. They will end the filibuster on their first day.

Can’t wait for the new Dem. majority in both houses of congress to lower prices on everything, especially gas.

That’s what the Dem voters expect, right?

NC has lots of folks moving just a few states from the north that have turned it purple and trending blue.

The good news is that they will not have enough surplus votes in the House and Senate to override a veto, and Trump is not scared to veto legislation and legislate through executive orders. If he can knock out Iranian leadership and get gas under control, we might be able to keep the White House in 2028.

Every election is the most important of our lifetimes. 2028 may prove to be the real thing!

Trump implored, “So what I really want you to do is pretend, please, that I’m on the ballot. Just come and vote. It’s so important.”

This election, Trump is getting exactly what he asked for—just not the desired outcome.

I doubt it will be the catastrophic day you predict but it could be. Trump tapping the brakes and putting a leash on Israel months ago is among the worst mistakes ever, at least in a political sense.

You’re a complete ass.

Top to bottom, side to side, and all the way through.

Nothing but ass.

It’s 2026, polls that favor democrats are rigged , the prediction markets are manipulated by democrat billionaire socialists and the democrats who are turning out to vote are shifting to to the GOP in support of President Trump.

I don’t think that’s quite right. Many NC voters have switched registration from Republican to Independent. Horrible Republican candidates such as Thom Tillis and other losers will do that.

However, the influx of illegal and legal “migrants” and people from Northern States will ensure a ‘Rat victory. It’s hard to find a native Southerner in Charlotte or Raleigh.

You're right about manipulating the prediction markets but it's not going to take much for the Democrats to take the House. All they have to do is to take a couple of seats in states like California, Ohio, New York, Virginia and North Carolina and just like that, they will retake the House.

Agreed that polls are garbage.

The problem is that early voting by party is real voting by real people—and is an excellent indicator of who is showing up...

I used it in 2024 to correctly predict all five swing states in the Presidential race where early voting was available.

Btw—North Carolina was one of those.

The good news is that while North Carolina appears to be a disaster...mid-term races are often affected by local/state issues more than Presidential elections.

We may squeak by in other parts of the country—maybe.

A lot of low-info folks voting Democrat, too dumb to realize they’ll get it good and hard if the Dems win.

this thread is not even wrong.

republicans are going to sweep most of the swing states. NC and GA are already factored in as losses.

the pubs will keep the senate. any wins or losses in the house will be narrow.
