Eight people have been indicted for conspiring to steal more than $7 million from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“SNAP”) between April 2023 and September 2025.
The alleged fraud impacted thousands of victims, many of whom never received reimbursement for the stolen benefits.
Belal Hauter, 34, allegedly led the conspiracy by opening or directing coconspirators to open numerous merchant processing accounts in the names of various delis, bodegas, or grocery stores, including a deli where multiple defendants worked. The co-conspirators also opened numerous bank accounts to connect to those processing accounts, so EBT transactions went directly to accounts under their control.
Gregory Fabiani, 46, and Abdulla Aezah, 35, helped open the accounts and provided technical back-end support for the use of those accounts and the POS machines.
Others used the POS machines to conduct thousands of transactions.
Finally, Milton Rios, 53, and Yvette Rivera, 58, also opened additional merchant processing accounts and bank accounts for the conspiracy.
They are charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with conspiracy in the fourth degree, as well as various counts of grand larceny and identity theft.

Over the course of six months, starting in January 2023, Kablazada and his co-schemers acquired three Chicago-area laboratories, Chicago Care, V Care, and Al-Ameer.
Kablazada then paid approximately $11 million to a purported telemarketing company based in Pakistan to obtain personally identifiable information for hundreds of thousands of Medicare beneficiaries. Using those Medicare beneficiaries’ information, Kablazada caused the laboratories to submit $227 million in false and fraudulent claims to Medicare for test kits that he knew were never requested by or shipped to the Medicare beneficiaries, for which Medicare paid approximately $136 million. To conceal their involvement in this scheme, Kablazada and his co-schemers paid themselves through overseas money transfers and unlicensed money transmitters, and they used the proceeds in part to purchase luxury vehicles.”

In Maryland, the state Dept. of Education came out and said that the fraudsters could keep the $50 million they had already stolen, but not to take any more.

This is what I think of every time I hear someone say that a congressman gets reelected because “they bring home the bacon.”
Politicians who “bring home the bacon” should be purged from office.
That boils down to what some describe as "The Tipping Point", where people who DON'T produce have the power to vote in those who can, at the point of a gun, enslave those who DO produce and force them to produce to the benefit of the non-producers.
When I hear it put that way, I do understand what they meant when they declared that "The Tipping Point".
