With litigation threatening to derail President Trump’s plans for a 250-foot triumphal arch in Washington, two of his top aides on Wednesday submitted sworn statements to a federal court claiming that the arch was needed for national security purposes.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Markwayne Mullin, the homeland security secretary, contended that even though national security was never invoked in the initial proposal for the arch, the project was now needed to keep the United States safe from drone attacks. “The arch is a generational national defense opportunity to mitigate these evolving threats,” Mr. Hegseth told the court. He added that the arch’s proposed height created a “significant elevation advantage.”
Likewise, Mr. Mullin told the court that the arch was “intended to incorporate a number of features that will support national security.”
No changes would be needed to the design of the arch to convert it into a base of anti-drone operations, both men said in their statements.

This Guy knows Jan Brady.
Jan Brady was a friend of This Guy.
Heggsy is no Jan Brady.
Go SecWar!
I find the Arch to be another Frog disaster.
TOTALLY NOT needed.
A childhood friend thought it would be cool if the slides at the Mcdonald’s playland actually concealed missle silos. McDonalds eould be a world power. The old style large golden arches can be used to fend off drones, etc
Might as well claim that the Triumphal Arch will also fight global warming. Because, hey. It’s possible.
I am against the Arch because it’s something that you see in empires, not in republics. Others disagree, and I respect that.
Sec. Petes sez you need thees steeking arch, so you better like eet.
A totally plausible, potentially Good Idea.
How many Mickey Dees are in Russia?
Drone defense, the exigencies of drone defense, is/are a thing, here along the East Coast.
Didn’t use to be a thing. Even until recently. But now it most definitely is.
Moreover, this transition, at least in the waters of New York Harbor, and those leading thereto, happened none to soon. Just in time to obliterate plans for what seemingly would have been the hugest and stupidest and whale and doplhin-killingest offshore wind power farm known to man.
Impeach him, then,,,,,
That description perhaps better goes to Obama’s ludicrous library building in Chicago.
The top of the Triumphal Arch reminds me of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. That structure is German Empire, Second Reich stuff. Not an appropriate style for a republic such as ours.
The Lincoln Memorial would seek to be a good choice.
I have no problem seeing it as a security feature and just look at the other buildings...not exactly log cabins.
You should not have to demur to your position. It should be understood that is your opinion, you are entitled to it just as others may have their own that is different than yours. Until one or the other has to be selected it is not critical to have anything but your view.
I agree though, this is another foolish idea. Does he not have enough trouble already? Has he not stirred the pot enough? What he needs to be focusing on like a laser beam is ending his stupid “little excursion”, it has cost us a fortune as a nation and personally already. We are going to be eating the fallout of this goat long after he is gone. It has gone on long enough that most prices adjusted for fuel will neever come down.

I bet the Arch is also going to have some dual purpose, too.

“Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in court filings Wednesday that the arch could bring officials from their agencies and others under one roof to better protect the nation from coordinated drone attacks.”
Is the Whitehouse expecting drone attacks??

Thanks for touching base. I often add such a disclaimer simply out of politeness. But it’s also because Free Republic has often become a coarser place.
Too many folks here ignore one of JimRob’s rules: “No personal attacks.” So if you don’t agree with them 100%, you are denounced.
My disclaimer is meant to keep the conversation civil (hopefully).
