First Lady Melania Trump successfully secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, localized to the city of Oleshky. Both
nations agreed to temporarily stop all military action in Oleshky to allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian
evacuation through a designated safe passageway.
The localized ceasefire will begin on October 29, 2026.
“The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster. Oleshky’s remaining population is
comprised primarily of elderly residents who urgently need medical attention, medicine, food, and clean water,” said First Lady
Melania Trump. “The people of Oleshky have limited electricity, live amid mined roads, and endure regular military attacks. It was
abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly
would be impossible.”
First Lady Melania Trump and her representative worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership to define the terms of the
localized ceasefire. The First Lady initiated discussions with both nations and aligned the parties on the agreement’s objectives,
technical procedures, timing, processes, and terms, in her formal role as Exclusive Intermediary.
“Non-military, civilian leaders from both countries will work together to visit Oleshky residents in their homes and determine the
level of assistance they require. Residents who wish to evacuate will receive coordinated support and transportation to their
preferred destination. I anticipate some will want to go to Russia, and some to Ukraine,” said First Lady Melania Trump.

The Humane treatment of captive civilians is long overdue.

Great first steps...
I nominate Melania Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Agree.
That blood bath is insane to have not ended sooner.
YES!
She is a WINNER.
I agree with your comment. However she is Trump’s wife, and because of that it will never happen.
I am greatly impressed! Not even the dangerously ambitious Hilary ever did anything like this while First Lady. Melania is directly involved in crucial foreign policy negotiations!
This is a highly risky thing to even contemplate, let alone for the president to allow and facilitate.
And since she speaks 5-7 languages, there’s a chance she negotiated in their native tongue(s).
Yes. Indeed.
If it weren’t for the citizenship issue I’d say:
“Melania 2028: Put a REAL woman in the White House.”
Oleshky has become a test case for Russian rule in an area marked by depopulation, damaged infrastructure, chronic insecurity, and growing isolation from the rest of Ukraine. Rather than reversing these conditions, Russian occupation authorities appear to govern through them, leveraging residents’ increasing dependence on occupation-controlled services, institutions, and administrative systems to sustain control. As humanitarian vulnerabilities deepen and alternatives to occupation governance diminish, humanitarian decline and Russian occupation rule become mutually reinforcing.
The occupation of the Oleshky area followed a similar pattern to the violent imposition of Russian rule across Ukraine. Russian forces brutally cracked down against any perceived dissent against the occupation, kidnapping and orchestrating enforced disappearances against prominent local officials or veterans of the Ukrainian military and their families.[5] The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces blocked evacuation routes and humanitarian corridors in the early stages of the invasion, effectively trapping people in the Oleshky area.
After Ukraine liberated western Kherson Oblast up to the Dnipro River in November 2022, Oleshky and its neighbors became the new Kherson Oblast frontline, firmly under Russia’s grasp and increasingly trapped by their geography. Russian forces dug into positions in and around Oleshky, often co-mingling with civilian residents and basing military equipment in the area.
Oleshky and other settlements on the Dnipro’s left bank suffered disproportionately because of Russia’s June 6, 2023 destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) dam.[11] The subsequent flooding nearly submerged the Oleshky area entirely, and Russian forces refused to facilitate evacuation or humanitarian support efforts. Up to 500 residents of Oleshky may have died during the flooding because Russian forces reportedly refused to evacuate anyone without a Russian passport
Russia has failed to deliver food, medicine, or other critical goods to the Oleshky area since May 2026. The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) published a report on June 25 that found that there had been no food deliveries into Oleshky since May 26.[21] Residents have resorted to eating ground-up grains and pasta mixed with baking soda and liquid from expired canned foods, grass, or soup made from garden weeds to survive.[22] An Oleshky resident posted on social media on September 1 that with the end of fruit and vegetable season approaching, people are increasingly “panicky” out of fear that there will be nothing left to eat.
