Matthew McConaughey could ‘absolutely’ be U.S. president: Sen. Manchin

(NewsNation) — Matthew McConaughey would be capable of being president of the United States, according to former independent Senator Joe Manchin.

McConaughey shared a pre-midterm elections message, saying that voting for independent candidates could bring lawmakers “back to the middle, where most American values live.”

In a video posted on X on Sunday, the “Interstellar” star said, “This is about the upcoming ballot, and I am not here today to endorse a candidate or a party. I am here endorsing two things: fairness and reality.”

Manchin told NewsNation’s Blake Burman that McConaughey could have a future in politics “absolutely at the highest level.”

“He has the ability. He’s smart, he’s charismatic, he’s able to communicate… He has all the qualities and all the ingredients that it takes to bring this country together,” Manchin said.

McConaughey mentioned Manchin in the six-minute video, saying: “Knows the math — lived it in a 50-50 Senate. One independent mind became the deciding vote and took all the fire for it alone.”

“Now imagine that same power held by three or four together, owned by no party at all,” McConaughey said.

Manchin told NewsNation he “had no idea” that McConaughey was going to put the video out.

“He did what he did because he came to that conclusion in his heart; it was the right thing to do for our country.”

Oy vey. Another idiot that thinks he is smarter than everyone else. Keep your day job pretending to be other people (and not very well in my opinion).

I laugh every time I see him getting the VIP treatment at UT football games. He fits right in at that screwed up college.

I like “McCOnaUhaze” beer. He’s good at sponsoring beer. He should stick with what he knows.

If the dumbass runs for POTUS, there is ALL KINDS of press of him doing really weird and dumb “Austin” stuff that will surface.

In the universe of things to worry about, worrying about him becoming POTUS is small potatoes.

Yes, he is an idiot. But where he really shines is when he is playing bongo drums while naked.

If a total nutcase and complete bozo like Talerico is even close in Texas, McConaughey would probably be a shoe-in for the Senate there.

95% of the female vote would be theirs by default. A real danger to them would be getting buried under all the women’s underwear tossed on stage at campaign rallies.

He would be another Jimmy Carter: someone who believes in the goodness of people. And he’d be steamrolled by the swamp.

He is a centrist and is encouraging people to consider voting independent right now. But he hasn’t mentioned where he stands on anything (like most “centrists”) these days, centrist is yesterday’s democrat. Thanks to the squishy RINOS, center just keeps moving to the left.

One day being a centrist might only mean not being a communist 🙄

I heard him speak at a company event a few years back. He’s a very good speaker. I could see him winning over a lot of people just because he’s popular, funny, and pretty articulate. But he’s no Reagan (from a political perspective)

I like Matt. He seems nice enough. But please stay out of politics. He has a great tuna salad recipe. Check it out. I tried it. Very good.

“Now imagine that same power held by three or four together, owned by no party at all,” McConaughey said.

They would quickly become owned by somebody.

So, charisma and communication skills are what it takes? Talk about a paper tiger. Or cardboard cutout. I like McConaughey...as an actor. But then, he DID play a president on the screen...🙄
