Amid escalating tensions between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Sunday dodged three times when asked whether Ukraine is an ally of the United States.
“We provide the three different things ... to Ukraine, so that’s what you do for an ally. We’re not providing those to Russia,” Bessent told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” the second time he was asked whether the U.S. considers Ukraine an ally.
Asked for a third time, the treasury secretary simply said, “I’m not the secretary of state. I’m not the president.”
Earlier, Bessent said the U.S. supports Ukraine in three key ways, including providing intelligence, Starlink support and allowing NATO to purchase U.S. weapons to resell to Ukraine.
He then accused Europe of falling short in its support for Ukraine, saying: “When President Zelenskyy asked for Patriots [missile systems], NATO — the European members of NATO — they have plenty of Patriots. Why aren’t they forthcoming with the Patriots?”
Bessent’s comments came shortly after Zelenskyy appeared on the program and told “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker that it would be a “historic mistake” for the U.S. to side with Russia in the ongoing war.
The Ukrainian president, who has had a sometimes tense and sometimes friendly relationship with the U.S. president, said of Trump that “we want to trust him” and “I hope that he will change his decisions.”

Ukraine is NOT an ally of America.
They are money grabbing leaches who’ve sucked in hundreds of billions of US tax payer dollars during Biden regime.
In what possible sense could Ukraine be considered an “ally” of the United States?
This is the same language used to describe Taiwan, and Israel.
“Ally” doesn’t mean we fight wars for you - it means we fight together, shed blood and share burdens together.
Ukraine is a provocation of Russia put together by Deep Staters who are mad that the Czar was mean to their ancestors. Taiwan is recognized by us as a province of China, contributes zero to our defense, and can only get us attacked. Israel is a US military protectorate.
None of them are “allies” like the British Empire 1941-1945, the USSR 1941-1945, or Turkey in Korea, Australia in SVN.
Calling Ukraine-Taiwan-Israel US “allies” is a perversion of language.
Tell the truth.
They are not an ally. They are a parasite sucking the life blood of Americans.

I told a relative something just today.
That Trump, either due to his acumen or the CIA/Top Brass etc is playing a strategic LONG RANGE game.
We have to remember who the lethal enemy is. And besides Nukes it’s not Russia. It’s China.
Russia is relatively weak economically, sparsely populated and on the wrong side of the population graph. They are facing multiple enemies internally..spread of Islam for example. Russia I think is actually trying to take the Ukraine back as a defensive move. As crazy as that sounds, they want to put a big buffer between them and nato. Now that doesn’t help Ukraine. Or it’s dying people, but that’s besides the point. China has a sufficiently powerful nuclear force to wreck us and they have a enormous population (if one doesn’t believe the YT videos) an economy close enough to ours to call a tie, the worlds biggest manufacturing base (thanks Walmart etc, Bush , Obama, Clinton, Biden) and a homogenous and oddly enough dedicated population.
My opinion is Trump is walking a thin line keeping us on relatively good terms with Russia in case of war with China. We can probably take China on but China allied with Russia’s resources, geography and nuclear force I think would destroy us. Going “all in” with Ukraine would probably turn Russia into a very large Chinese partner.
Geopolitics is a nasty, heartless game. I think the current admin is playing chess and most of the rest are playing checkers.
