Reparations activists celebrate 'important victory' after Newsom signs first-ever corporate slavery bill

California advocacy groups are celebrating a "big, important victory" in their push for state-level reparations after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a first-in-the-nation bill requiring large corporations to investigate and disclose historical ties to chattel slavery.

Kristin Nimmers, policy and campaign manager for the California Black Power Network (CBPN) and the Alliance for Reparations, Reconciliation, and Truth, told Fox News Digital Newsom’s signature on Assembly Bill 2599 — the Truth in Disclosure Act — marks a significant milestone for corporate accountability.

"There are connections right now from slavery to current wealth of individuals and current wealth of corporations whose foundation and who built the start of their companies off of slavery and off of benefits gained from slavery," Nimmers said.

Newsom signed AB 2599 into law Sept. 30, a move Nimmers called a "historic moment" that forces qualifying businesses operating in California to scour historical records and publicly disclose slavery-era transactions.

California was the first state in the nation to establish a formal task force to study the legacy of slavery and recommend potential restitution measures.

"The California Reparations Task Force spent years documenting the state's role in perpetuating racial harm and outlining this path toward repair," Nimmers said. "AB 2599 is really starting the work of identifying who really benefited from this racial harm and from slavery."

Authored by Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, D-Ladera Heights, the law applies to businesses with more than $100 million in annual worldwide gross receipts that existed — or had a predecessor entity in operation — on or before Dec. 31, 1964.

Once funded by the state legislature, covered companies will be required to submit sworn affidavits under penalty of perjury to the California Civil Rights Department.

The shakedown industry will soon be the only corporation left in Cali.

What more of a warning do these corporations want? This will only be the first step. Like with blackmail, the demand for money will never end.

Gavin loves fishing expeditions. Especially the ones paid for by other people’s money.

However, if you’re Nike, your use of slave labor in Asia is fine, don’t worry.

What ever money is extorted through these shakedown operations will be consumed by those handling the funds and nothing will be paid to any descendant of negro slaves.

Reparations don’t cure inequality.

There is no cure for inequality.

The unequals are SOL

Based on two factors given the December 1964 date and 100 million it hints to me that this may be targeted to one particular company,

If slavery was legal at the time, which it was, what crime was committed by these evil businesses and corporations they want to shake down? How can it be deemed that a single dime is owed if no laws were broken? When the law says “you can’t do that anymore” you can’t be punished for doing it in first place. Right? Not to mention, Cali was never a slave state, so what business is it of theirs? Oh wait…that’s just Newsome pandering to low IQ voters.

Bill Gates wasn’t in high school in 1964.

From the article:

“..the law applies to businesses with more than $100 million in annual worldwide gross receipts that existed... on or before Dec. 31, 1964.”

Say we did reparations. How are they divvied up? A person who is half white/half black? Does the white half pay the black half? How about people who are 82% African, like Emmit Smith? does he collect 82%? And does the 18% of him have to pay?

Which company would that be?

“Reparations”
And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you’ve only to pay ‘em the Dane-geld
And then you’ll get rid of the Dane!

Results:
And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.
