A violent clash involving a group of young Syrian men erupted in the center of Arnhem on Tuesday evening, September 30, 2026
A group of roughly 15 young Syrian men (aged 17 to 20) engaged in severe street fights and bloody stabbings around areas like the Korenmarkt and Willemsplein
Three people were injured, including a minor who was seriously hurt. Police arrested eight suspects in connection with the violence, with charges including attempted manslaughter
Mayor Ahmed Marcouch confirmed that the individuals involved were all of Syrian descent, and noted that a portion of them are rejected (uitgeprocedeerde) asylum seekers who travel across the Netherlands without housing or prospects.
Mayor Marcouch and national politicians have sharply criticized the outbreak, calling for clearer legal frameworks or deportations, though officials note that deporting individuals to Syria remains legally and practically very difficult due to a lack of repatriation agreements
According to the police, the brawl started on Willemsplein, near Arnhem Central Station. When the police arrived, the group spread. Subsequently, officers also faced incidents at other locations in Arnhem. What prompted the violence is not yet known. Several were injured and eight arrests were made. A person has been taken to the hospital. "I hope he's making up for it, because that was just the question," Marcouch knows.
"Unacceptably violent behavior", the mayor of Arnhem describes the brawl of the group of around 15 young people between the ages of 17 and 20. It was also stabbed, Marcouch says.
The young men come 'from all over the world of the country', but not from Arnhem. "You see it's guys who know they're not supposed to be here and therefore have no perspective," Marcouch says. "Because they are not actively evicted from the country, they move around and have a network of friends or people with whom they have come here. In this way, they provide for their own maintenance," he continues.
How does this group meet in Arnhem? "You can see that they know how to find each other through all kinds of social media or WhatsApp groups. They know each other and have a network throughout the country. In it, they also call each other and mobilize each other when there is something.” Whether that has happened, is the use of the police investigation, Marcouch emphasizes. "We have been seeing for a long time that these groups are traveling all over the Netherlands."

It’s almost as if their culture is fundamentally incompatible with Western Civilization, isn’t it? And doesn’t it even sometimes seem like they, well, rape, murder, and brutalize other people quite a bit more than other groups? I realize that’s not true, though. I know islam is a religion of peace, and that all cultures are equal. We must have compassion for politically distressed but able bodied men of military age, and allow them to settle into our communities.
Even Muslims hate them. The Turks wanted a ceasefire with the Brits in WW1 in Iraq so they could massacre the Arabs who were descrating their dead and wounded.
